Gingersnaps - Coffee and Cream

All January Gingersnaps have themes based around coffee. This is the first one I've managed to enter, the challenge is a colour one the colours being Coffee and Cream. Well my coffee is black but mixed a little cream in here.

The stamp is a woodmounted one from Inkadinkdo stamped in SU's soft suede and clear embossed. The flower thing top right was made using MS punch on both sides of a strip of paper. A few spots of viva pearl pen and its good to go unsweetened ofcourse.

The Stampman - Oriental

Got very excited when this fortnights The Stampman Challenge was announced.   The theme is Oriental and that is something I love.

A while ago The Stampman created an Oriental kit included the fan papers I have used here.   The center panel is a Tanda stamp coloured with Pro-Markers.

Went for a shappy chic feel with this screen.   Started with A4 Black card trimmed the width slightly and to make life easier the center panel is 4" wide so slightly wider than the wings.   Cut the centers out replaced them with the paper for the sides and stamped vellum for the centre.

Some flatback gems for studs removing a few when finished to leave gaps.   Used gold leaf pen with gaps for wear and tear covered with crackle glaze.   Decided it was not distressed enough so gave the frame a thin coating of Viva crackle.

Dragon's Dream - Sentiment on a Tag

Season of mists
and mellow
fruitfulness,
close bosom friend
of the
nuturing sun
conspiring with him
how to load
and bless
with fruit the vines
that round
the thatch caves run
Keats (Thank you Sally and Jackie)
Well have the sun rising on a misty mellow autumn scene the words blown in on still warm winds.  Well I'm sorry don't do words! Think in cartoons and work with numbers but you get the general idea.

This is my tag for Frankie's Dragon Dream which this week is about using a quote as the man focus and inspiration for your tag.

CofC #29

Could not join this challenge again last week so pleased that this week Linda has allocated Weathered Wood Grunge as the challenge subject for her fab weekly challenge.

Cannot tell you much about the technique which is described in detail in Tim's Compendium of Curiosities page 50.

A small canvas is the support stamped with Clarity's great poppy which has been coloured with promarkers.   The background is Paint Dabber and DI.   The sayings are unmarked stamps from years ago.

If you have not been there already pop over to Linda's and see what everyone else made of the challenge.

just for fun sneeky peek

I do not usually do sneeky peeks but today just thought you might like a hint about my first sample for Just for Fun.   Today our first tutorial has been published for those of us who are challenged by putting one of those links on their posting that take you to another page or blog.

The way the link is written is the way you would put a link in a comment as well hope you find it helpful.  Thank you Sam for writing it.

Chunky grungy page - Heavenly bodies

This is another 5" x 5" square page for the Chunky Grungy Book swap that She is hosting.   We now have until the 15th April to complete our pages and send them to her, jolly good thing to.

I am only sharing pages with you for now that are for people who do not visit 'This little place' the rest will be a surprise for the swappers who know me.

This page is for Heather who unfortunatly had to drop out but we are still going to send our pages for She to make into a book for her.   The book theme that Heather chose is Heavenly Bodies.    Lovely ladies or fellows for that matter would have been fun but just do not have the stamps in my stash.   Instead used Star signes from Tanda, had Andrew upsize a smaller set for me a couple of years back.

Base card baryered initially with B&J and then coloured with Nick Bantock inks.   The saying is from Clarity, then the Tanda signs and over the top Hero Arts Swirl.   All embossed with WOW Powders.   They have worked extremely well over stamping and embossing over work already in place.   Got me thinking about the sort of ep we had years ago, no fine powders then and they were only available in Gold or Silver, melting one on top of the other then would have been a bit of a mess.

Tando MUM

Just a very quick post this morning before heading out to work.

I don't have a Mum but still love all the Mum centred things around just now.  Well Mothers day is just a couple of months away and we have Valentines before then!

This little card has a Nellie diecut suspended from eyelets, a PB stamp has been attached and the edge of the plate touched with gold rub on.

The word MUM of a Tando Plaque coloured with whisper pens and then touched with matallic rub on.   The piece was then coated with clear ep.

Right best go and earn the funds for more toys LOL

Dragon's Dream - Fabric and words

Had a bit of fun with this part of an enjoyable creative week-end. Fabric is something I would love to do more with but as I'm still scared of the sewing machine so when Frankie put up this weeks Dragon's Dream to use fabric and words on this weeks tag it was good challenge.

Got felt scraps out looking for the brightest colours and glued then to a tag. Overstamped with an art collage stamp in stayzon and TH tickets tucked behind the felt. A little metal and flatback bling just because.

Someone once told me not to be afraid of colour times like this it always makes me smile.

Pay it forward

Its nice to see this link going round again and love the little logo.  I have picked it up from Sam this time and now she will make something and send it to me, some time in 2011.

Thats how it works the first 5 people to comment here saying they would like something from me will get something sometime in 2011.  No idea what sorts of things I'll make yet so it will be as big a surprise to me as to you.    In return for this if you want to join in you will make the same offer on your blog and share the gift giving.   I will check your blog before sending your item to see how you got on, just like Sam will be checking mine LOL.

Been playing with the FP again, the other day created a block of marbel effect which I've cut up and used to make a mask.

Have seen some fantastic FP masks and so had to have a go.   Not 100% happy with the photo but am pleased with the crumpled somewhat spooky mask.

The Stampman - Distressed

Hi, do you remember the trip to the garden centre and the wall art the grabbed my attention? One was a series of twisted metal flourishes reaching up and covered with butterflies larger at the bottom growing smaller the higher up the flourishes they were. The butterflies were also metal and shaped wonderful and expensive piece.

This was directly inspired by that wonder. A rub on applied to green coated metal. The outline has been worked with TSS tools back and front, a couple of the flowers and a leaf were puffed from the back and the back filled with Glossy accents. Metal panal stuck to card and the edges run over with a TSS wheel. When the metal was stuck the card edges were coloured with DI Shabby shutters, scattered straw and tattered rose, in a couple of places smudges of glossy accents worked as resist adding to the distress. Butterflies stamped onto pearlised paper with Brillence lime green, Vellum butterflies made using a cuttlebug cut and emboss set. All butterflies covered with Distress Stickles in Shabby shutters and Tattered rose. A couple of green busy lizzies cut from printed vellum all paper and vellum attached to card with the same distress stickles. This did not work for the vellum butterflies so sepia glossy accents was used.

Am entering this into The Stampman Challenge which this fortnight is distress.

Journal page School Days

Oh this was a horrible one LOL School was somewhere I was more than happy to leave behind so had to dredge up some memories to do this weeks Journal Challenge at UK Stampers

The prompts were Schooldays using lined paper (TH faded lined embossing folder) 10 random things about your schooldays, mine worked out at 5 good and 5 not so hot! finally ink blots and doodles in the margins. Well as you might imagine my school books were full of doodles and ink blots. Not quite so easy on embossed card but doing them did take me back LOL & thank goodness for reinkers. Green and Blue 2 of my favourite colours used DIs here and the damp bottom of a cup.

Right came home last night to a wet kitchen floor water running from the roof space down EEEEKK! well the plumber has been and its all fixed now so I'm off for a shower and then work!

Tanda Teaser 163 - Pink and Brown

Oh that is better a little stamping and inking on a Wednesday evening makes the week go by.

Sue set a new Tanda Teaser yesterday with an adorable new baby card.   For my canvas I've gone with a Valentine theme.    Matallic inkablities pulled onto the canvas with a sponge.   Interesting the colours were blue, green on top and then pink on top of that next to it pink on its own repeated across the sponge fasinating how it came out.   Tanda heart stamps used on brown coated metal embossed with TSS tools and puffed from behind.   MS corner punch on two corners Red Current Alcohol ink used to lift some of the colour coating.  Pink wire wrapped round the metal topped threaded with a metal word tag and some beads and then the ends swirled.    Ribbon and lace to finish off.

This will make work and the very early start easier in the morning!

More FP

My very fine hair is a great frustration no styling for me just striaght flat hair.   So fine that the only hair clips that hold it in place are those little doubled over thin strips of metal with plastic ends, called grips.   Anything else just slids off.

looking for something a little more fancy in the shop it was shocking to see that a pack of just 3 or 4 with a little decoration costs over £1 while a card of 24 plain ones cost less or the same.

Out with the FP well left over FP and micro beads.   Am quite happy with these and now I know how will have to see if something more fancy can be made.

Face the music

Had some fun with this inspired by Dragons dream where the prompt this week is Face the Music requiring you to incorporate both a face and a musical reference in the tag.

Glossy card clear stamped and embossed with the PennyBlack music collage coloured DI blended over and the corners knocked off. The ep was removed in 2 corners and the face stamped in more DI.

The swinging instruments are Tando coloured and then coated with distress stickles.

Lots to do - Use a brayer in your work

Wonderful array of winter flowers on display last week smashing reminder that spring is on the way. This week at Lots to do we have something something different and a tool challenge. Here in the UK Brayering is becoming increasingly popular so we thought you might like to share some brayering with us.

Sadly this is the last Lots to do Challenge, Hilda has been running it for 3 years and feels she would like to do something different.   If you are one of the inky fingered, altered/distressed crafters out there seeking a refuge from all the cuteness the world has to offer all I can say for now is watch this space.

I have used B&J Waterfall here on glossy card, overstamped with an aspects of design stamp in Stayzon, cut out close to the stamped image. The background is a photocopy of an old map torn screwed up and distressed with DI. The waves are strips of Friendly Plastic buckled. The Compass is of course Tando chipboard that has been sprayed with shiny mica sprays and touched up with silver paint. Words Happy Birthday stamped in the same Stayzon as the ship.

Pop over to Lots to do to see what the team have come up with using this versatile tool. What will you use your brayer to do we would love to come and see.   Thank you to everyone who has joined in during the life of the challenge it has been a real pleasure visiting you all and become friends with many of you as well, Thank you Hilda for the site and for inviting me to join you on the DT these last few months.

weekly Journal Challenge

Starting last week at UK Stampers Efemera is giving us a set of promts to make a journal page.   Post card size was suggested especially for us novices at Art Journals its a format I like and is the size my pages will be made in.

This is the first week's page.   The Prompts were Goals and we were told to include some hand made paper, 3 aims or things we aspire to in 2011 and a photograph.

My photograph is a friends cracked laptop screen printed on acetate which fits my stated aims which are: to smile more, to get a job! and to be more advanturous in my creativity.

This is the second weeks page which is about Gifts.   This time the inclusions were to be: the best gift we have received, the worst gift and recycle some packaging.

The gifts best and worse proved to be very personal and choosing just one best impossible so a set of five tags are a small selection.   The worst was given with love by an aunt and thats all I'm saying about that.   The recycled packaging is the support itself a piece of cardboard with the top layer stripped of in part.

Right time for work!

CoC #27 - Distress Misting Masks

After missing last week was especailly keen to join in with Linda's Compendium of Curiosities weekly challenge. I'm sure you have heard of this challenge before and know we are asked not to share the details of the technique from the book we use. Those can be found on page 60 this week. So having gathered the required ingredients  my background was made up, a little subtle and just right for a folksy music themed card.

Various stamps layered up and some di blended round the edge of the card the sentiment stamped and embossed in WOW very fine gold.  A little sakura around the words just to help them pop.

The guitar is another little piece of Tando Chipboard sprayed with the distress mist allowed to dry. Strings etc drawn on and then the same gold ep touched over to give it a bit of wear.

Sometimes you just need a little simple card.

Magic of Water

Thought I'd share another page for the Chunky Grungy book swap that She is hosting.   This page is for Lindsay who's book is called the Magic of Water.

The pool and fish are white card embossed with a cuttlebug folder and the raised images coloured with Glittering Sakura pens.   The rest of the pond was scribbled over with silvery glitter pen.    The pond sides and waterfall rock is Viva Ferro touched with Cosmic Shimmer paint.   The waterfall is made of packaging, shredded coloured film.   Paper flowers dotted around.   Not very grungy maybe but hopefully it reflects the magic of water.

There are only 2 more pages to be shared with you until after all the books go out and those 2 are not made yet!

Right off to work, yes! I have a new Temping role which see me to the end of February.

White tag

Have I mentioned how much I like white on white? so crisp and subtle. Delighted then that this week Drunken Stampers have challenged us to a Whiteout.

It is also the last day to enter Frankies Dragon's Dream which is to include something on a tag that is impressed.

The main embellishment on the tag is a piece of white FP with silver edges to make it wide enough, heated and Clarity's stamp 'What is this life....' pressed into it while warm and soft. White lace has been attached down the side to disguise the silver, the blue is the remains of the stamps indexing. White card and white vellum embossed with a Cuttlebug folder, vellum attached with an eyelet, white of course, under the fp. White flowers stamped and embossed with white ep but that did not work out very well, attached to vellum with white pearl topped brad. another white eyelet and white ribbon top it off.

Thanks to both challenges for the excuse to play.

Friendly Plastic pendant kit

With ambitions to make some projects using Friendly Plastic thought starting small would be a good idea.  So armed with just a computer and confident ambition I popped over to Liz Welch' site and then onto her shop where I found the kit to make this great pendant. Well the one Liz made and shows is great LOL

The concept is easy just needs practice and practice especially the bead making part.   Hope I have enough friendly plastic but then the shop is handy and service is good.

Tanda Teaser 162 - Embellishment

Had the Meltpot out the other evening making the UTEE impressed dragon for this Chunky Grungy Page. Then realised that Sue has set a new Tanda Teaser calling for us to make our own embellishments. Rather thought the UTEE Dragon fits the bill.

Very easy to do use melt pot to heat clear UTEE on a piece of tefalon mat cut to fit the pot. Sprinkle some orange EP into the mix and when that is melted pull the mat with the hot UTEE on it out of pot, stamp into the UTEE with an inked stamp hold for a moment while the UTEE starts to set and then remove stamp. Once cool enough to hold trim embellishment ready for use.

This is of course another of the Chunky Grungy pages for She's swap. This time the theme is Magical and Mystical for Elaine.   Sticky back cork negative from the TH flourish die used a while back, sprayed with GM  & dots of glue over cork sprinkled with little stars.   Wizard stamped with Stayzon onto acatate and coloured on the reverse with Pro Markers.

Gingersnaps ended 2010 with a Ginspiration challenge all the team have put up something they did in 2010 inviting us to be inspired and make ourown take on it. Jules Eickmeier has some lovely birds suggesting that we Stamp on Acrylic with Permanent Ink, the Wizard is my take on her challenge.

Lots to do - Winter Flowers

Wonderful 'new' occassions marked by your projects last week thank you for sharing with us at Lots to do Great start to the new year and enough inspiration to keep us going for the whole year.

This week we are all about Winter Flowers any winter flowering bloom in any form you like.

Snowdrops are amoung my favorites they are so pretty and delicate like shy little winter smiles. Happily there are a couple of clusters growing and spreading in my garden and I'm looking forward to seeing them soon.

This card uses two Diamension Forth stamps on white pearlised paper and white card.   The snowdrops were stamped and embossed on Vellum coloured gently from behind cut out and layered on the paper leaving the flower heads un-attached for a little movement.

Please do pop over to Lots to do to see what the others have made and leave a link to your winter flower.

Friendly Plastic

Had a little play with some FP yesterday.   Had these strips for 3 years or so and have played 'freestyle' before but not very successfully.   Then last year Lucy showed me how to use FP with moulds. Have had a lot of fun making things with moulds and then Sam started showing some of the fabulous interesting things she has been doing with FP. And of course Liz Welch has been on Creat and Craft all of which reminded me of all the other things you can do.

Decided to start getting to know the material better and see what it can do. These are the results of my play.

More Glittery Sparkly

Really enjoyed making the pin below and remembered that this little star as still waiting to be given a make over. Out with the Melt pot and more flat back gems.

Melted the UTEE and sprinkled some orange into the pot. When that was melted put the Tando star in and made sure it had a good coating of UTEE. Once the star was removed the UTEE cooled quickly so to attach each little gem it was reheated quickly in the desired area with a heat gun. Some ribbon threaded through presto a pendant.

Who says stars are just for Christmas LOL

Another chunky grungy book

Sheila, She to us, has organised another book swap 5" squares again but this time each of the 12 swappers chose a theme and we each make 12 pages' one for each person in their chosen area. To keep the pages a surprise I'm only sharing those made for people who do not visit this little place, at least I don't think they visit if they do they do not comment LOL

This page is for Sonja and she chose Steampunk, a little head scratching later i wondered it Leonardo da Vinci was perhaps a Steampunk artist. Background paper(distressed with TH cog masks and DI) a page of his war machine sketches no images of his flying machine available for me to use. Some of the sketching is highlighted with glass watch fronts. A watche's innards connected by ball chain to an ornate jewelled square plate. Cork to represent the softer machinal edge of Edwardian steampunk and rose emblem reflecting that beauty and machinery go well together. Altered glue on top for the soft flowing aspects of steampunk. Hope when she receives her book Sonja will like this page and all the others.

Sparkles #2 - New things

So today the English, Welsh and Irish go back to work, Scotland has another day and I think one or two other parts of the world as well!   Normal service is pretty much resumed and a lot of us have been missing our Mojo hopefully all these holidaying creative spirits will return and resume work as well.

Looking for mine and needing some Birthday cards came up with this.   Sparkles second fortnightly challenge is for us to use our new things. For this card Three new or previously unused things came into play.

Remember the Metal Wall Art? Well that led to my buying some rub ons! Used one here on the left of the card. The fancy edge on the right of the card is a new TH die. The PB stamp is used for the first time not had it very long just since November embossed with WOW in copper. A little green vellum and gold mirri card cut with the TH flourish and as backing mats. DIs used on edge of card and topper Vintage Photo and Black Soot.

Glittery Sparkly Hearts

One thing about a break like this is play time lots and lots of play time. This little piece was inspired by some gorgeous sparkly jewellery at 'Past Times' well why buy what you can put togather yourself?

This Tando set is designed to be a pendant. Triple embossed all 4 pieces topping them with matallic ep and stamping into the base heart with flower and butterfly. Cogs then stuck to the heart and each other, then the Red White and Blue stones attached with Glossy Accents. Not a pendant this time but a pin.

Hug Tags

Sparkly faries give special hugs! At Lots to do Revisited forum when one of us needs a hug Hilda sends a little book of tags to them from all of us. Most if not all of the forum members contribute tags sending them to Hilda who keeps a who keeps a hug tag bank. What better way to spend New Years Day then making a few tags for the bank.

The printed flower fairy tags were a craft magazine cover gift a couple of years back which have been just waiting to be given purpose.    Dug out my fairy stamps and some little flower ones embossing the faries with Cosmic Shimmer EP coloured them with Sakura.   The flowers were not embossed but have been coloured with Sakura.   Printed tags attached to stamped ones with ribbon, Hilda they will be posted in the week for you to use as and when.

Lots to do - Something New

Happy New Year, did you celebrate last night, well perhaps you have not gone to bed yet and are celebrating now.    As another year starts thank you all for so much support encouragment and friendship over the last 12 months and before.   2010 was not kind to everyone an up and down year for me that sees me start 2011 un-employed with all the un-certainty that that brings but knowing that something will happen it is possible to be confident that the IMPs and I will be fine.   For you may it be possible to leave your troubles and problems behind you on the threshold of the new year.

Its just about the end of the holiday season now and as life returns to normal we at Lots to do are starting the year off with a new challenge. To mark the date today we are looking for your celebrations of something new. A new job maybe or baby anything new you care to share.

This picture is a gift for a forum friend whose husband is a vicer, they are moving to a new parish in about a month.   I'll send this to you Jackie as soon as you let us have the new address and a date for the move, hope you do not mind my sharing it with the world today.

Two Tando sets were used in this and the basic frame shape came from 'the Works' covered with Vanessa Arbuthnott papers.   Chipboard shapes painted with Viva Inca gold and Viva ferro paste, colours added with Promarkers and more papers this time from Dovecraft.   Church windows Quality Street wrappers.   Viva Ferro and Viva Craco spread around the outer frame.

What new day or event will you celebrate don't forget to pop over to Lots to do and share your project with us.
