Craft Room 1st Challege

CRAFT-ROOM CHALLENGE, finally our team are all in place and we are cooking on gas.   Today sees the start of our challenge's each Challenge will last for two weeks closing at 8pm (UK Time) on the second Monday following.    We will have a randomly drawn winner for each challege and they will receive £10 (excludes postage) to spend at Craft-Room online shop.    The winner will be announced on the following Tuesday, together with the teams top 3.

While we are finding our find our feet to start us off we have an  easy challenge for you all with a theme of Anything goes.

For this art board piece the background is thick high gloss card splattered with Alcohol inks.    The new Tando Scallop nested sets both square and rectangle have been distressed with lots of Distress Ink and arranged over the board.   Having decided on the layout Clarity stamps where used in the framed spaces.    Stamped in various colours of stayzon, all but the Masai and sun are block stamps.   The Masai and sun was coloured with new Marvy La Plume permanent pens.    Not that impressed with these pens they have a single end with quite a wide round 'brush' give good coverage over alcohol inks and against the stayzon ink but the size of the brush means they will not be useful for small fiddly areas.

The stamped images were highlighted with gold leaf pen.   Frames touched with Inca Gold for highlights and linked together with brads.   Some fiber threaded through a buckle style brad used at to link the top pair.    Edges of back panel  swiped with Vintage Photo DI and frames glued in place.    To get the panel to stand on its own one of Clarity's handles has been stuck to the back, finally a use for those handles!

All the new team have different styles and have taken very different approaches to the challenge.   We welcome crafters of all styles please pop over to Craft-Room Challenge to see what the fabulous team have created and join in yourselves.

These are the pages I made

Yesterday it was a pleasure to show you all the wonderful pages received in She's grungy book swap.    These are the pages that i made for all the books there are a couple of extra pages made for people who later had to drop out.   She is using them to make books for these people which we all hope they will enjoy.

All things Tim

Be Happy

Build it

Grungy Christmas

Grungy Christmas

Heavenly bodies

Inspired by Nature

Journey through time

July (with a shaped edge)

Magic of Water

Magical and Mystical

Steampunk

It was great fun making each of these and trying to think of ways to express the given theme.  Some of these pages have been published before but for others this is their one and only showing.    Thank you everyone for some great theme's and a lot of fun.

Another LIM square

When you first enter a LIM challenge you are warned that it is addictive.  Well lets face it we all discovered that crafting is addictive, then we started blogging and entering challenges and found that to be addictive so we went looking for more challenges.  It was inevitable that one or two challenges would become so compelling that week after week followers would enter several times a week, week after week.

Slightly more confusing is why an inky, grungy, altered, messy mixed media crafter like me, got hooked.   Perhaps its because once you get the idea of what to do they are generally quick and relatively easy to do.    Easy! have you seen what some people do!

This then is my second entry this week to Less is More.   A scary thought but there might yet be more of these pick a square cards.

She's Grungy Book Swap

Toward the end of last year She put out a call for a Grungy Book Swap she was hosting.   I was lucky enough to get a place on the swap and yesterday received my book.  We each chose a theme for our books, mine was Steampunk in the sky.   These are the stunning pages made for my book

A big thank you to She for hosting this great swap and thank you to everyone involved for these gorgeous pages.

Less is More - 25%

Well Chrissie and Mandi gave us very specific instructions for this week's Less is More challenge.   The theme is Pick a square.

Take a square card and choose one of five squares within it, each of the corners or the center.   If your image spills over that is OK but it must be clear which square it is and the rest of the card left as pure white space.

I cut down an A4 piece of card to make a 5.5" square card.   Then cut another square just 2.75" square.   An old Rubberdubberdo magnetic stamp and Lightening black.   Lightening black around the edge and sticky pads.

I am sure that there are lots and lots of beautiful square cards to be seen & I'll try to get round to them but as with any challenge I like to make mine before seeing anyone else's and do have another idea to kick around.

No crafting Friday

Yesterday (Friday) was the first day in ages when no crafting went on here.   Nothing all day that involved ink or paper or scissors and it was not even lack of mojo that led to this sorry state of affairs.    Despite my best efforts to keep everything else at bay yesterday I was over run with stuff.   Still its done now and as its a long week-end quite a bit of creativity is anticipated.

Not having anything new to show you thought I'd share a  project that have not been published here previously, this wire torso on a canvas.    Canvas covered with design paper with areas of the design outlined in glitter.   Barn Door DI worked over the top which was then stamped over edge of canvas have black DI blended over.

Wire Torso shaped from a flat template well a picture in a magazine, two separate pieces from the bust more wire shaped the lower half and spans it.   Lace ribbon and little buttons finish this fun canvas.

It just happens that Daring Card Makers this week are looking for fashion themed makes this week! hope this fits the bill.

Steampunk tag with a spoon

Wonder if it will be less windy today yesterday the winds were back guess its the fact of a Bank Holiday week-end coming.

Tag Tuesday this week really appealed to me, the challenge is to use a spoon in some way on your tag.   This little wooden spoon has been in my stash for over a year waiting its time.   It came from a really posh sandwich place so much nicer than a plastic spoon knew I'd have to do something with it and now Tag Tuesday gave me a reason.

Distress stains Peeled Paint used to colour the spoon, walnut stain around the edge.   Lots of little watch parts and glossy accents down the handle.   The tag is half a DL card, covered with Tando cog mask dabbed through with Wild Honey.  Then Prima masks hot air balloons and pocket watch dabbed with bundled sage.   Vintage Photo used to stamp Creative Expression Zeppelin and Recycled moving parts stamp.    Grunge paper flowers coloured with Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade.    Basic Grey papers die cut with TH cogs die.   Spoon, flowers and cogs layered onto tag and stuck in place.    End of spoon and centers of flowers dabbed with glue and florists sand sprinkled over it, one final watch part added to petal of flower in spoon.   Inca Gold touched to flowers and cogs.

Steampunk is all about those wonderful late 19th and early 20th century H G Wells, and the like, sci-fi stories with fabulous machines and stylish ladies and gentlemen.   Highly ornate and fantastical themes the mixture of soft and pretty offset by mechanical wonders of all kinds.    Not sure what you would use a Steampunk spoon for perhaps it opens cans of food and heats them for you as well.

Steampunk is the theme this fortnight at Tanda Teaser, guess this is my entry.

Just for Fun - Tea Cards

Postcards were fun hope you enjoyed them.    This is Neet's last May challenge and she has picked a cracker to close May with.   Tea Cards

Do you remember those packets of loose tea and between the wrappers there would be one of these little cards to collect.   There were so appealing to children and so informative.  I had complete forgotten them until Neet proposed this challenge.   They are a specific size, 2 1/2 inches by 1 1/4 inches with a white border framing the image.   Had a lot of fun putting these together the images are heat embossed the ends of my fingers knew all about it!

Looking forward to your different Tea Cards linked back to us at Just for Fun.

Will you look at this!

Thank you Valarie.   If you have not visited Valarie's blog you will not perhaps know of her fabulous mail art or how brave she is in the face of Frau Postmistresses displeasure at it.   To receive the envelope is a treat but this one was stuff full of treasure.    Die cuts of her fabulous hand painted background papers, a magical tag, the cat card and one of her delightful mini books.   Bottle top turned into a lovely pendant and beaded pins.   The finds just went on and on.    Thank you my lovely friend you are very generous.

Dragon's Dream Tag it on - FISH

Thank you everyone who joined us last week at Dragon's Dream TIO

Every Wednesday we have a new challenge and this week is Janet's turn to set the dream and its a lovely one a dream of fish.    As you probably already know you can do anything you like with the theme so long as you make a tag and have some rubber stamping on there.

For my tag I used a Cuttlebug folder coloured with Pro Markers and highlighted with stickles.    The sentiment stamps are from an old Elusive images set.   Will dream of fish with us this week, if you do please share your dream at Dragon's Dream TIO.

Father's Day Tag

Spent a lot of this 'free' time I have looking around at different challenge blogs and the entries.   So many wonderful projects to see and so many kind generous sharing people.    On my virtual travels I came across A Crafty Kind of Truffle, a monthly challenge whose theme this month is to make a Tag for Dad.

The theme stayed on my mind and so clearly a tag had to be made.    the base of this is more of my 'waste' paper.   I always work on a scrap desk calendar which gets covered in ink of various kinds and colour.   Sometimes its a muddy mess fit for nothing but the recycling bin, other times like this it makes an exciting colourful background.     Got my fab new Andy Skinner stamps out again using DI Vintage Photo to stamp with, pulled the colour in to fill the bird using a water brush.    The letters of the sentiment 'Always Follow Your Heart' were highlighted in gold leaf pen, broad nib gold leaf pen used to write Dad.

Why not check out A Crafty Kind of Truffle for yourself.    Andy Skinner Stamps available from Craft-Room.

A box for some treasures

Last September this empty cigar box was given to me to  alter and do what ever took my fancy with.

It will not surprise you, unless this is your first visit, that when inspiration finally struck it was inky, grungy and messy.   First off sanded the box prior to giving it a covering of black Gesso.    With the MAWTT's sketch and Sparkles Forum Challenge (Metal) in mind out came the metal.   The green center plate and the three gold squares were embossed using TSS embossing plates and tools.    Glued these to the lid and turned to the Viva Terra and Ferro pastes, spread the Terra around over and under the metal panels, dried with a heat gun so that it bubbles and touched with Cosmic Shimmer paint.   Next the ferro over the box and some of the Terra and wet paint.   Once that was dry all the remaining exposed box and sides were painted with the blue Cosmic Shimmer paint, the black undercoat enhances the glow.

Then came the fun part!   More metal cut with TH tattered floral die and cogs die, flower shaped and held together with an eyelet.   Some silver coloured altered glue attached over and under the cogs.   Viva Inca Gold paints in gold green and gold touched over the various peaks.   Gold Green dotted around the sides of the box with a round sponge.    Cosmic Shimmer spray blasted over the top and all the other little metal bits and pieces added there is a Vellum butterfly in the mix as well.    Finally as the top still looked a little bare a strip  of lush blue and green lace down one side.

Then I realised all this started as a wooden box and Alter it Monthly have a wood based theme!

A big orange flower

Yes that seem's to describe it a big orange flower.

You see there was a challenge that caught my eye;

Ladybug, use Orange.

Then when I was trying to find it again more popped up that an orange card fits with.

Craft your days away, white + one other

and the numbers? they are for
Theme Thursday, numbers.

Stamps Paper Artsy, Background DI Rusty Hinge, Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade.    Orange blending block dragged over the edge top and bottom.   Stamping and Tando numbers coloured with Brilliance ink.   This will go into my emergency supply cards for use as a Get Well Card, so it will work for Tanda as well.

LIM - Butterfly

Well now looking at many of the Less is More entries over the last few weeks my ideas about less is more are changing.    Chrissie and Mandi might not agree but it seems to me that more or less anything goes so long as there is either just one significantly large image and not a lot else or more than one image with lots of empty space.   It seems that space is not always white either.

With that in mind I used one of the new Tando Masks on silk card and then dabbed Nick Bantock ink all over the surface.    Andy Skinner stamps from Word up stamped in the center of the masked flourish.   Butterfly stamped onto vellum cut out and attached just at the body.   Three pearl top brads to finish.   Stamps and Mask available from Craft-Room.

I am also entering this into

Gingersnaps - Make a scene

This had me giggling and if I had the right stamps would have made a card of a girl throwing a hissy fit  but I don't have the stamps so you are spared that one

So instead I made this which is probably a card for a man.    Light house image by Stamps Happen Inc, stamped with Momento and then the card bryered giving it a brooding effect.    Image then coloured with Pro Markers.    Seagulls from an elusive images stamped and clear embossed then coloured with Pro Markers cut  it out and add to card with sticky pads.

Making a scene is the most recent Gingersnaps Challenge and this is my entry.

What to with twine?

The Gingersnap Spicy Supply Challenge this month is to use TWINE in a creative project.   I think the overall themes of the month are 'the Wild West' well those legs could belong to a Cowboy!   and Masks as you might know I've been playing with the new Tando masks.

For this wall hanging I used the new Music Mask and also some Tando Chippie musical notes.   Lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer mist, Perfect Pearls and stenciling with with Brilliance metallic inks.   Stamped image onto unmarked card and stuck it all together.   Viva Inca Gold used on Tando Chippie, Craco spread around a little.   Just used for the lines of the musical score at the top and just a single stand around the bottom.

The hanger is one of those packaging hangers saved for just this purpose.

Gingersnaps are not the only ones looking at twine My Partner in Crafting Crime are also inviting entries using this wonderful textural natural marterial.

Just for Fun - Postcards

Good morning, thank you everyone who joined in with us at Just for fun last week with Scraplings we saw so many different ideas and fabulous projects, Thank you.

Neet is still making us use our rulers with her size specific challenges, this week we are making Post cards, 6 inches by 4 inches and you can if you like make the back look authentic as well.

For mine I used an old music sheet as the background stamping the Tattered Angel's owl directly on to it with Perfect Medium, coloured the owl with coloured chalks.   The rugging mesh cut to fit the post card and then cut out the center used brads to hold it in place.   The flowers and leaf are SU stamps just stamped in black ink onto green paper attached through and over the mesh.    Wanted a muted natural feel with this and think I have succeeded.

Your postcard will represent anything you want, we will enjoying seeing what you do if you link at Just for Fun.

Dragon's Dream Tag it on - Write it Post it

Seems people are re-discovering Dragon's Dream Tag it on and enjoying the challenge's the team have been setting, great that is what it is all about.   This week it's my turn to set the challenge and I am looking for your tags to include some writing or postage or both.

For this tag the base was stamped with Tanda Stamps from their Postage set do you remember those old post marks?   You used to be able to see where the letter was posted and the date/time oh those were the days LOL   The tag has been distressed with Old Paper and then stamped in the same colour with a writing image.   Small envelope given the same treatment and some paper stamped with another writing image and also distressed.   Paper tucked inside the envelope and together these were attached to the tag.   A feather collected at some time in the past overlays the piece a reminder of the days when feathers were used to write with.

The Rubber Cafe are looking for Tags this week perfect challenge for this tag.

Looking forward to seeing what your take on the theme will be.

Magical Worlds

Sir Stampalot May challenge is 'Magical Worlds', knowing my love of fantasy the only surprise is that it has taken me this long to enter LOL

Steampunk well definitely magical worlds think Edwardian Sci fi 'War of the worlds', 'The time machine' all those elegant costumes both Ladies and Gentlemen wore, and the fantasies they wrote much as I love modern Sci fi there is something special about Jules Verne and Co.

This slightly altered wooden frame then.  Frame from the £1 shop already stained but not varnished so it came ready to alter.   Using the new Tando Cogs Mask  marked the basic frame with Distress inks in Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge.   Next Tando Cogs from Large Heart Cog set, Large Cog set and Small Cog set, these were coloured with Distress Inks, and then Glimmer mists.   Cogs arranged and then glued together, once they were fixed the cog mask laid over and Cosmic Shimmer in silver sprayed over.   Cog piece attached to frame and then some washers, altered glue, Viva Ferro paste and various metal embellishments.   Needing a picture stamped a butterfly in Brilliance ink and remembered that I have a shrink piece from the same stamp.

Guess this fits

Tanda Teaser - Get Well

A friend is having surgery today so a Get Well card is very much needed for her.  I think I'm safe to share it as she probably will not be up to visiting for a little while.

Tanda Teaser this fortnight is for a get well card, my friend is very into vintage hence the stamp and papers used, this was a match made on my kitchen table.

5 inch square card covered with some Basic Grey paper and then a page torn from a French book no idea what it says hope something a little saucy to cheer her up LOL   Some lace and then the topper.   Tanda Stamp from Art Nouveau Set 2 embossed with green Cosmic Shimmer ep.   Finally some flowers and self adhesive pearls.   DI in old paper, Green and Pink have been applied for a little distressing and aging.

Quite a few of my friends joined the last Tanda Teaser thank you all for supporting the challenge it was very much appreciated.

Pink and Green are one of my favourite colour combinations by chance this colour combination is the theme this week for The Crazy Challenge so am entering this card there as well.

Found out this evening that Stamp for Fun are also looking for projects using Pink and Green, must be something in the air.  Of course I've entered my card.

May Swaps

All caught up with May swaps now dare not enter until I know I can make the swaps and think with the ATC's the other day these will be it for May.

6 Black and White Twinchies for Sam's Twinchie Swap at UK Stampers all images from Crafty Individuals stamped in white, the embossed images used WOW powder.

The next set of 4 bookmarks are for the Art Swap at Gingersnap Yahoo Group.   The theme for this is round the world.    All the bookmarks were coloured with DI the top 2 were also stamped in it Stone Henge was then coloured with Whisper pens.

The third corner marker was embossed with clear ep.  The last one is a LB stamp I'm not sure where of but it must be somewhere around the world.

Because they are all bookmarks they are all one layer but lots of layers with colour and stamping.

Remembering Dad

My Dad never made it into the 21st Century think he found the latter part of the 20th rather more complicated than necessary.   He was sport mad when he finally got a television it was so he could watch sport on it.  Any sport all sport and pretty much only sport, but Dixon of Dock Green was allowed LOL

Well the new Crafthouse vintage sport stamps caught my eye and reminded me of him.   Then Tando released their new sports sets including this cricket set and a Father's Day card was inspired.
Base card coloured with various green DI.   Nestie cut on white card stamped and coloured with Marvy La Plume, Pro Markers and DI attached to card with sticky pads.   Cricket Chippie set coloured with DI and Pro Markers for the bat handle.   Dad die cut with mirror card.

Am entering this into

Pollycraft Monday Challenge (just squeezing under the wire)  Boyz to Men

Wednesday Stamper     Think happy thoughts :)

Guinness cans

Not so long ago Tracy had a blog Candy offering some of her empty Guinness cans that had been flattened.  I was the very lucky delighted winner.   Been itching to have a play but other projects kept getting in the way.

Finally got my opportunity.   Watercolour board given an initial layer of Distress Stains (DS) in weathered wood.   Now I know why everyone is raving about these stains.   Layers of stamping using Paper Artsy stamps and DI initial layers stamped in yellow and blue next layers in dark green.   Some torn and embossed Glassine paper just seemed right at home on top.   Next using Paper Artsy dies cut the metal in flowers and leaves.   The metal cuts just as well as any other metal I've used.  Now to colour my flowers, having just received the new Marvy Le Plume alcohol ink markers and some Copic refill inks gave these a try with great results.   Finally the metal was embossed some on TSS embossing plates and some in Cuttlebug folders.   Because the metal is a little thicker and maybe more brittle with some of the embossing it split in places adding yet another layer and dimension to the flowers.

I am entering this into the following challenges

Tuesday Throwdown                              Use Die Cuts
Simon Says Stamp and Shoe                   Anything goes
The Crazy Challenge                               Anything goes
Make it Monday                                     Anything goes
Kaboodle Doodles                                 Lots of Layers

A little like Wedgewood

When the post man delivered the post today it included some of the new masks from Tando.   They are even better than expected and of course had to have a play right away.    So first thing will they emboss what else would you do with a mask LOL.  Took a bit of fiddling to get the right sandwich but this is card stock.   Masks are available from Craft-Room and other stockists.

The card is my entry to this week's Less is More which a a single layer card with embossing.   Using blue card stamped and heat embossed the La Blanche stamp in white then tinted skin tone over the top.   Fancy this brings Wedgwood to mind.   The card was then embossed with the mask giving this violinist a musical background that is not over intrusive.

ATC Swap

Friday the 13th I'm keeping a low profile today LOL   I'm also in desperate need of getting some ink on my fingers so may not be around much today :)

I've left the first para as it was! This should have been published at 6am (GMT) on Friday guess we all know that there was a bit of a blogger problem LOL   But on the up side I did get inky will share later.

These vintage themed ATC's are for the swap that Sam is hosting this month at UK Stampers.   The 2 seaside adverts are from Tanda Stamps the other stamps are Hero Arts, Creative Expression and Stamps Happen Inc.  Lots of DI base, stamping in Brilliance Lighting Black, the vintage lady stamped on vellum and coloured with dorsing pastels.

Just for Fun - Scrapling

Good morning here we are again at the beginning of a new week and challenge at Just for Fun.   Lots of inchies last week guess now the bank holiday season is over and family routine returns to normal we are all finding ourselves with time to relax and do our thing :)

Neet is setting out challenge's this month and has set the months theme of size.  This week it's scraplings for size and explanation you need to check out the challenge site where Neet has explained it really well.

For my scrapling its not just the brown base left over from making a 5 1/2 inch square card, but also the negative in the green card from die cutting the flourish.   German Scrap provides the wheels border down each side, the butterflies were stamped onto scrap vellum.  Well you know i like to use up my 'left overs'.    The little sentiment is a SU stamp, nearly did not stamp at all but felt it needed something.

These little scraplings are fun to do hope we are tempting you to have a go and join in with us.
