Best of British or Canadian thinking of Patriotic American and the French, it's all Red, White and Blue

If you are visiting the Craft Barn this week-end lookout for Di and Karen who are womaning the Tando Stand.    Lots of new goodies to see and some old favourites, Di asked us all to make up Red White and Blue themed projects for the stand.  Well this is a very special year for the Island of Great Briton with lots to celebrate.    Here are the Button Cards I've contributed.

Buttons coated with EP on plain board and board first painted with Gesso.   The Jack is Indigo Blue over a no wrinkle distress coloured card

Buttons coloured with Viva paint stamped with glue and gilding flakes applied.   This time I "drew" the Jack and coloured it with ProMarkers

Buttons covered with paper napkin.   Smaller Indigo blu Jacks coloured on the rubber with Whisper pens, masked and over stamped with a Hero Arts London Print collage stamp.

Buttons coloured with Dye ink pads, some embossed with an embossing folder and touched with gilding wax.  That Indigo Blu Jack again (It is the best Union Jack Stamp I've seen anywhere) again with colour applied to the rubber.   Bus and Big Ben from a Papermaina 'Urban' set.

We had a host of British Red, White, and Blue challenges at the beginning of the month, now it is the season of North American Red, White, and Blue or is it French Rouge, Blanc et Bleu.   Hopefully these challenge's will not mind a British themed entry!

Craft-Room Friendship

Well what can I say about Our Furry Four Legged Family?! A few entries did not qualify but oh my there were also many fabulous entries, thank you all for joining in with us.

This fortnight it is the time of our bright new Teamie to host the challenge.   Suzanne has chosen Friendship as her theme, thank you Suzanne for the wonderful warm and touching tribute you paid to Craft-Room Challenge in your intro to the challenge.   This fortnight we have Crafty Individuals as out sponsor again they are giving the lucky winner of the random draw the fabulous ornate Hearts set.

No surprise then that I used their images of 4 young girls enjoying summer as only friends know how.   It is actually the first time I've altered one of these Ikea mirrors!  Don't think it will be the last had a blast doing it throwing (sometimes literally) just about everything to had at it.   Now it hangs in my hall and makes me smile every time I see it.

Do join us and celebrate friendship with us this fortnight.  Of all the magic and wonders we have here in blogland friendship is the biggest bestest greatest treasure of them all.

Naturally I've found a challenge or two that my mirror fits with.

Foot stool

It was hissing down this morning, so decided to have a day at home, and of course, some of the time the sun came out.    Then there was the European FI and at the beginning at least the chance of yet another winner.   Well that didn't happen, that nice Spanish driver Alonzo won his second race of the season.   To say it was not a race with out excitement (and disappointment) would be a complete untruth.

Last week-end at Lidl I picked up a flat pack footstool with the intention of altering it.   Bad weather always give the opportunity to get the paint out and play.

Having put the stool together it was first given a coat of Black Gesso, then when that was dry roughly painted with cream acrylic which was topped with White Gesso.   Some glimmer mists sprayed and rubbed into the paint to knock it back.    A page of music torn and stuck on top, TH tissue tape placed around the edge.

Then the fun started, Flowers and Butterflies stamped with Momento and coloured with La Plume solvent pens and the grass added in freehand.   The stamping and colouring went on over the top and both sides of the 'legs'.

And all the pictures, well I'm really pleased with this which can only get better as it becomes more aged and battered.  So despite the mis-fortunes of Mr Hamilton and Mr Button, Mr Di Resta did quite well and this was a good Sunday.  Shush I've no idea about the football ........

Summer in your mind

Well if we cannot have summer outside I'm getting some here.   Have you been looking round at all the wonderful summer inspired projects that people are sharing?    It is northern hemisphere summer in blogland for sure.

For this image some glossy card was coloured with Adirondack inks and ink dusters.  with green, yellow and blue in place a piece of paper was torn and red brushed over the split.   Clarity stamps stamped in more Adirondack ink then coloured with Le Plume solvent pens.   The dragonfly and top of red mushroom, leaf and snails shell given some sparkle and shine with Sakura glitter gel pens.    The base card was just stamped with Clarity corners.

These are the challenges that kick started my indoor summer

Pretty Shabby don't you think?

Much nicer today! and those chores have been done well apart from the ironing ......

Picked this little book up in the bargain bin at some craft show or other.   Opened it up yesterday and decorated the front.   Nick Bantock inks worked onto the base then some words stamped and heat embossed.   Next some lace down one side with net roll flowers over the top.   The Gibson Lady Painter is a new stamp from Flonz in New Zealand,  first try out of their stamps here on Papyrus with more NB inks and some Moon Glow 2 tone ep sprinkled over parts of it.  Papyrus does not take heat well and warps, the warping allowed me to raise the image in the middle while sticking it flat at the ends.   Some more stamping a dreamweaver hat pin self adhesive gems a metal butterfly that has been in the draw for 15 or more years (see everything has its turn eventually LOL) and some paperflowers hiding a bit of a mistake.

Altering things like this is so satisfying and great fun, finding things to alter much more exciting than shopping for shoes!

Red, White and Blue

Storms battering us, cats have taken all the comfortable spots and there is housework to be done.   What better reason to have a little play.

Treated myself to crafting for fun.  Took inspiration from the theme of the year which it seems is Red, White and Blue.   Less is More are not looking for the colours this week rather this week their challenge is Something Shiny.

For this card Sakura Glitter Gel Pen made the lines around the edge of the card.    The Magenta poppy stamp was coloured with Whisper Pens, Cosmic Shimmer Drawing Ink 'Cherry Glow' used to outline the red flower.    Final touch of shine three little self adhesive gems.

Craft-Room Challenge - Furry 4 legged Family

Cute warning!   This is not in my more usual messy inky style!

I'm not much of a Scrapper either but just sometimes the imps pose demanding to be photographed.  The resulting pictures occasionally find themselves featuring on an 8" x 8" scrap book page.

Following our great fun birthday blog hop at Craft-Room challenge it is time for me to challenge everyone. This is where it gets cute! The theme this time is Our Furry 4 legged Family!    We are joined by Tando Creative as our sponsor this time with a fabulous prize of either chipboard and/or masks.    The Cattitude word piece simply had to feature on this page.

While in scrapping mode I made up a second page using an old moo (3" x 5" landscape format) featuring Izhe with his debonair crossed legged lounging pose.   The stamps used on this are Tanda Stamps and of course more Tando Chippie.

Even if you do not have any 4 legged family members do please still join in with our challenge after all its what you make of the theme that counts, and we love to see your projects at Craft-Room Challenge.   The wonderful team have made terrific inspiration samples to help get your creativity going, thank you girls.

Now it is time to let you know who won the Blog Hop Prize for commenting on my site.   I have kept the prize a secret to surprise the winner but I'm sure ............. will not be disappointed.    ............. please send me an email with your address and I'll pop your surprise prize into the post to  you.

Mobile Butterflies

It should be summer, right?   and we have a drought? umm Guess this year is all about the indoor barbecue.

And after all we can craft our own summer brightness and blooms can't we.   What can be more summer like than a flight of butterflies?   I'll admit a bit of time when into this but the result is a very decorative mobile or wall hanging.   More details about how to make one  on the Tando Creative online classes very soon so no need to go into the details here.  Just tell you that techniques used include embossing paste, gilding flakes, film transfer and of course stamping.

Tando Creative - Fabric

Flaming June!

First Wednesday of the month, it's the start of a new challenge at Tando Creative.   These challenges can be just a little different and we are seeing some sensational entries quite right to because the prizes are pretty good as well.

For June Karen has chosen using Fabric as the theme. Now for those of you who know what to do with a needle and thread or even a machine it's easy.   Some of us were told at a very impressionable age that we could not sew and continue to believe this simple fact. Starting with a 7" circle of thick card I've covered it with some cotton fabric.   Indigo blu images have been  stamped onto Artists Transfer Paper, coloured and then ironed onto the fabric.

Tando Creative Sew Simple Set and a couple of button's from a button grab bag.    The dress form shape was simple stamped with Flitter glue and then covered with silver/pink gilding flakes, the leg was coloured and then covered with glossy accents, dress like this I think even the plain board looks pretty good.   The sewing machine and cotton reel were simply coloured with paint and spray.   The buttons were coloured with brilliance inks and then heat embossed to add texture.   Finally a little brown lace around the edge and my new sewing fabric wall hanging was complete.

Now are you all reaching for your fabric stash? I hope so 'cause we are looking forward to seeing your entries at Tando Creative Challenge.

With a man in mind

No man in particular, just with the long week-end had a little time to play.   With Father's Day soon there is the odd male themed challenge around.

Started with some gray card and a Tattered Angel's mask and then two of their stamps.  Next Tando Cog Mask and Imagination Crafts Sparkle Medium.   Some Tando Chipboard numbers coloured with Viva paint are tumbling from the clock.   Crafty Individuals  image stamped onto acetate twice, layered onto the card with sticky pads.   A glass watch front, a split pin with the legs cut off, some watch parts and two buttons were used to 'hide' the sticky pads.

On then to those male themed challenges

Unruly PaperArts Issue 3

2012_June Banner

First of June and summer is here!   Well so it seemed for the last week of May here in GB, given that we have a very special long week-end fingers crossed the good weather continues.   Over at Unruly it's the start of a fresh issue looking at things botanical with lots of inspiring articles playing with the theme.

As always there are 2 Reader Art Quests which we love to have you join in with, the winners of these are selected by your votes not by the team.   The theme of this the first one is 'Spring Thing' think of all the glorious buds of spring.

So many flowers to choose and believe me there were a lot of stamps to choose from.   Opted for a bunch of dafs.    A popular and traditional British Spring bloom, from Wordsworth's 'When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils;..' to our modern cultivated varieties that bloom in gardens and in roundabouts and grass verges up and down the island.    Stamped these in Green Versafine on ultra smooth car and coloured them with water soluble wax pastels.   Repeated three times to create a 3D decoupage topper.   Added the bee because they are just wonderful garden friends.

You know you have Spring Things just waiting for you to use them, now is an excellent time, so please join the fun at Unruly PaperArts.
