Craft-Room Challenge - Use a Mask or Stencil

It's that time of year when the year seems to be rushing to a close.   Christmas is in the shops, before that it is Halloween and then Bonfire night in the UK and Thanksgiving in America.  I think Canada's Thanksgiving has past but someone reading this will put me right I hope.

Being a Tuesday it's another challenge at Craft-Room Challenge.   We had great fun with our feathered friends theme, this time Esther has asked us to use a stencil or mask.   It is also the first challenge when we are joined by our two new roomies Amber and Annie.

Our sponsor this time are the very generous girls we know as Stamp Addicts, who will give one lucky winner £10 to spend at their online shop.

Been doing at lot with stencils recently, they are very versatile and fun to work with.    I'd made something completely different as my sample for this challenge but had doubts.   Then on Saturday another challenge caught my eye and gave me the idea for this card.

The stencil was used to colour through using Whisper pens in green, orange and beige (sorta yellow/green).    Stencil left in place and Dreamweaver Pearlscent paste pushed through.   Once the stencil was safely washed, and while the paste was still wet a piece of light weight string laid over the top of the image making a stem from the bottom to the top of the card.   Once the paste had dried I used Rogue Redhead stamps to add a simple sentiment.

There are so many things you can do with a stencil, the team have been very creative in their use of them, but we are sure you will show us more ideas to get everyone's creative juices flowing.   Don't forget our great sponsors.

The challenge that inspired by card?
Less is More - Use twine or string
Other challenges I'd like to share this with is
Sweet Stampin' - Wood, Trees or Leaves
Addicted to CAS - One Layer, message to Marie there.  I have real problems commenting on wordpress and having changed computers have lost your email address.  I'm sorry not ignoring you just cannot communicate with you!
There she Goes - Leaves
Eureka Stamps - Just a note, of thanks

Got a stencil, come one and let us at Craft-Room see what you can do with it.

Stormy week-end

Well it certainly is here strongish winds, driven rain and bright spots!   This is not shaping up to be a crisp autumn.   But I do think we put the clocks back tonight and this is the 10th anniversary of my quitting smoking give or take a day.    Now that is a bizarre thought and I'm happy to report that I am a happy secondary smoker.  I know the comfort that smoking brings and that 'encouragement' to quit is both deflating and self defeating.

If you are a non smoker before pointing out the damage smoking does to any of your smoking friends and family stop!    I'll not go on this as I've got no idea where the lecture came from or where it's going!

Anyway being indoor weather I've been playing.   The CAS card I made I'll share on Tuesday.   Now I wonder why that would be. then having been neat and clean I went in the other direction.   Having tried and failed to stencil with spray some corrugated card I pressed this kraft tag onto the wet stencil.    Next it was over stamped using a La Blanch stamp and Olive Green Versa Fine, a second stamp used 3 times on the bottom stamping off the edge.   The failed corrugated (a used coffee cup cuff) was flipped over and stamped on the back this time in Versa Fine Black, the images were fussy cut out and coloured with Sakura Glitter Pens, they shimmer.   Using a nail file kept for the purpose the edges of the tag were distressed, and then DI blended over in shades of green, brown and orange/rust.  The original mask/stencil (Tando Leaves) was laid back over the tag and Glimmer Mist Iridescent Gold sprayed over.   Some Viva paste spread down the side and on the edge, now the three repeat stamps were added.    Just a fun little project to while away an other wise dull day.

I wonder what these people will make of it, they are all challenges followed by my friends at Challenges for Days

Brown Sugar - Autumn
Card Crafters Circle - Autumn Splendour
Little Red Wagon  - Brads or Eyelets, writing up the Wednesday list this challenge stayed in my mind hence the brad body for the dragonfly.
Shelly's Images - A Fall Themed picture inspiration.
Use your Stuff - Orange, Brown and Green
Cheerful Stamp Pad - Lets Stencil (2nd entry)

A couple of cards

Hi, how are you on this wet and windy Monday evening.   Not so good here, gall bladder kicked off this morning so its been a day of trying not to turn into a sprit level!    Hoping for a good nights sleep and back to normal in the morning.   Anyway I've got a couple of cards I'd like to share with you all this evening.

You might know that our challenge this fortnight at Craft-Room Challenge is themed Our Feathered Friends.    Birds and nature make lovely images, I wanted to have an autumn project so this little tit a full time resident of the island is a good starting point.

The colours were kept pastel using ink dusters and Adirondack dye based inks.   The flying birds and flora were stamped in shades of brown and green.  Little orange berries and shadow lines added in yellow.  The main image is all whisper pens applied directly to the stamp.

Our challenge has another week to run and there is a fabulous Crafty Individuals prize to one lucky winner drawn at random.

I'm sharing this card with
Ooh La La - Things with Wings
Designed to Color - Use a Die (spellbinder fancy edge)
Challenges 4 Everybody - Anything Goes

And then there is this card, made with Rogue Redhead Designs challenge in mind, Diecut Divas is the theme there.

For this A frame card I stamped a background with on of RRD's back ground stamps and then distressed it with various inks and those ink dusters, they are never far from my work surface.   Marianne heart and snowflake die set used to cut the heart shape using some shabby chic style DPs.   Over this some lace has been layered.    RRD's girl in a hat stamped and coloured with ProMarkers sits on top of the heart with a die cut Eiffel Tower tucked behind her.   Some ribbon flowers and netting as the first layer complete the shabby chic intentions of this card.

Beside Rogue Redhead, I'd like to share this  with

Fashionable Stamping - Make a Card
Crafty Cardmakers - Shabby Chic
A little bit Crafty - A little bit Shabby
Colour me Creative - Anything Goes

Back to normal tomorrow, I hope.

Craft-Room Challenge - Our Feathered Friends

Hello, I'm writing this on Sunday late afternoon.   Here in GB it is the stormy season and there is a good wet and windy blow going on outside, autumns here.   But only in the northern hemisphere.

Tuesday morning once again the start of a new Craft-Room challenge.   Before we get to that want to let you know that the team will soon have an announcement on our new team members, I know, I know but working in the virtual world can be slow sometimes!

We are all a bit thin on the ground at the moment with family issues and failing laptops.   Your support for us stalwart roomies who are doing extra duty will be greatly appreciated.

Our theme this time is hosted by Hazel, who has stepped up to cover Julia's absence.    Hazel's theme is Our Feathered Friends always a delightful subject, thank you Hazel.

I brought this dove stencil at a craft show earlier this year.   Love the image so pretty and peaceful.    For my card the stencil was taped over card and coloured with Whisper Pens.   Imaginations Crafts Diamond Sparkle Medium was then spread over the stencil.   Once the paste was dry another mask over laid, this one has 2 feathers on the edges the rest being jagged.   Using Adirondack inks and ink dusters layering and blending colour to frame the birds.   A little bobble ribbon placed over the branch just adds dimension and movement.   When the occasion for this card comes I'll know and might add a sentiment.

Challenges I'm sharing this with are:
Crafting when we Can - Make it Sparkle (IRL the paste is dazzling)
The Squirrel and the Fox - Things with Wings
Get Creative - Create a Card using a mask or stencil
The Cheerful Stamp Pad - Lets Stencil

Lots of autumn and halloween themes around at the moment if you would like to join something a little different then please share your birds with us at Craft-Room challenge.

Another lazy Sunday

This card started as a die I've been stroking for a while.   It is very intricate and I've been scared to use it in case it didn't work properly.   But it did and this wonderful peacock or is it a swan was cut perfectly.

Using Mown Lawn, Salty Sea and Peacock DI on a smooch mat, the die cut dragged across to give it a mottled effect even left a couple of white patches.
The black glossy card came next, but the black was too much directly behind the die cut.  Thank goodness for double sided sticky film.   A piece cut to size and the diecut attached and the film given a final neating.   Gliding flakes covered the exposed area of the film.  This topper attached to the black mat and in turn onto blue card.

I am so glad I decided to try the die out and am really really pleased with the result.

Here are some challenges that might like my card

Mac Tag

Popped up to Harrogate at on Sunday for the Paper-crafts show there.   It always amazes me how easy it is to find new things that are simple must haves!

Among Sunday's finds were a new (to me) range of stencils and embossing paste.   Not sure of the company name the paste is labeled Glitz Craft if that helps.   The masks come in a whole range of designs including several in the Mac style.   Its a simple distinctive style that has more than stood the test of time.   Naturally I stocked up with 4 of these masks and some pots of paste including iridescent white.   Of course I've had to play with my new toys!

For this kraft card tag the indigo blu shabby jack stamped first in white and then again in pink.   Next the single Mac rose stencil laid on top and marked with pink and green Promarker, over which the new white paste was spread and left to dry.    Next from the old Tanda Mac set the small 4 rose stamp, stamped in red and coloured with Whisper pens, the same pens were run round some of the edges of the now dry paste.   Various embellishments and things pulled out of the bottomless pit of must haves from previous craft sales.   This one was a lot of fun to do.

Thought I'd share it with a couple of challenges.

Card Mania - Use Pastel Colours
Fashionable Stamping - Use a Stencil or a Mask, to be fair this one was in my mind when I started this tag.

OK thats enough for this evening.

Do you like my Hell Hound?

Earlier today it was shaping up to look like this and was going to be a tutorial!   But not getting much time to craft these days once the Glimmer Mist sprays came out he started to change radically.

The basic mask used here has been Gesso'd and waiting to go for years, just could never figure out what to use him for.   Needing a project for a future issue he seemed like a good subject.   Don't worry something will be found to replace this.

So after starting this with DI and some Tando Stencils the Glimmer Mists did come out.   And then some Paper Artsy Grunge Paste, more GM and other sprays.   Then some inks and paints.   Back out with the Stencil and more DI finally Sakura Pens for highlights.

Wadda yer think will he be scary enough for some halloween fun?

I'm entering my Hell Hound into some challenges;

Ali-Craft - Halloween
Crafty Calendar - Halloween
Crafty Catz - Anything Goes
Totally Paper Crafts - Bring Humour to your Creation (Well it makes me smile)
Craftitude - Anything Goes beginning with S (Stencil)
C.R.A.F.T. Challenge - Cats/Dogs/Pets/Animals
Altered Eclectics - Always anything Altered

Hope you like my play day creation, just for the record I'm not a user of Digi Stamps so please if my entry pops up please re-draw it.

Unruly - Haunting Ways

2nd Post today!  Well not only is it Tuesday, it is also the first of the month.   So October and some changes at Unruly PaperArts.  Shar whose baby Unruly is has decided to step down as her other life commitments need more of her time.

Shar thank you for everything, starting Unruly which is unique in our crafting land filling a very special place.   The idea is that we your peers share with you our art and the techniques we use, we know that very little of what we share is new like you we are learning and absorbing all the time, but Shar had the brilliance to bring us together herd, guide, mentor and support us, sometimes chasing us up to get the blogzine produced and ready to share with you all each month.    The blogzine has been a great success and a pleasure to write for.   We are lucky in two things that at this time of change; Shar is staying on with her column and that a new editor has stepped up.

Deni joined the team last term (6 months ago) and as serendipity would have it was looking for 'something to get her teeth into' her words when Shar made her announcement.  So we find ourselves at the beginning of a new term with a new editor and some changes in the team as well.   I'm sure with her fresh keen but considered and detail approach Deni will take Unruly forward.   And yes I'm still there, but of course the most important part of Unruly is you, the reader.

Now you know we have 2 Reader Art Quests each month, and this being October our month's focus will be a little spooky.    I've made a sample for the second of the RAQ's "Going Batty'.

This being the season of reward for menaces and all that, something that is taking of here in the UK more and more each year.  I've altered a soap box to hold what ever there is for the local children when they come knocking on my door.   The papers are Basic Grey some cut and pasted onto the box some cut with an old cuttlebug set for the bats and spider.   The word Treats cut with another set of dies.

Do you like halloween and or bats? This could be the spark for you.   See you at Unruly PaperArts

Craft-Room Challenge ATCs

It's that time again!  Thank you for a wonderful array of wooden objects for my challenge at Craft-Room I'll be back over on the challenge site next Tuesday with the winner and my top 3.

This time our challenge has been set by Maria  but life with it's twists and turns has led Maria to Ireland for a little 'me time'.   Like we say in our DT call one or two of us need a breather just now!   Back to the challenge.

The theme is one of the easy/hard ones, we want you to make an ATC or series of them.   Any theme you want any style just make a little 2.5" x 3.5" work of art.   If you are not sure what an ATC is, it is an artists calling card a small card that on the front that is a demonstration of your art and style.   Traditionally these cards are never sold but given or swapped.

We have one of my favourite brands as our sponsor this time Tando Creative one lucky person will get some of their goodies.

Casting around for images I looked out a SU set, kinda London themed although the penny-farthing threw me a bit.  Stamping is my thing so the stamps were inked up and stamped into the middle of little white cards.   Next the word Celebrate added and in green the leaf swirl design.   The phone booth coloured in red with whisper pens and glossy accents used where the windows go.   A real trip dow memory lane this one, I even remember the horrid smell in those old style boxes, mobile phones might be a pain sometimes but who would want to go back to those old red phone booths?

Next the London Eye.  I went on this for the first time last year, it was fantastic.   That day was lovely and sunny so the inner circle I cross hatched in yellow pen and then blended blue ink around the outside.   Finally the penny-farthing, vintage sepia tones for this one all those wonderful DI in oranges yellows and browns.

The team may be a bit thin on the ground at the moment they are still a talented bunch looking forward to seeing what you make at Craft-Room Challenge.

And yes Netty I think you might be right but we love our Whisper Pens right!
