Last September this empty cigar box was given to me to alter and do what ever took my fancy with.
It will not surprise you, unless this is your first visit, that when inspiration finally struck it was inky, grungy and messy. First off sanded the box prior to giving it a covering of black Gesso. With the MAWTT's sketch and Sparkles Forum Challenge (Metal) in mind out came the metal. The green center plate and the three gold squares were embossed using TSS embossing plates and tools. Glued these to the lid and turned to the Viva Terra and Ferro pastes, spread the Terra around over and under the metal panels, dried with a heat gun so that it bubbles and touched with Cosmic Shimmer paint. Next the ferro over the box and some of the Terra and wet paint. Once that was dry all the remaining exposed box and sides were painted with the blue Cosmic Shimmer paint, the black undercoat enhances the glow.
Then came the fun part! More metal cut with TH tattered floral die and cogs die, flower shaped and held together with an eyelet. Some silver coloured altered glue attached over and under the cogs. Viva Inca Gold paints in gold green and gold touched over the various peaks. Gold Green dotted around the sides of the box with a round sponge. Cosmic Shimmer spray blasted over the top and all the other little metal bits and pieces added there is a Vellum butterfly in the mix as well. Finally as the top still looked a little bare a strip of lush blue and green lace down one side.
Then I realised all this started as a wooden box and Alter it Monthly have a wood based theme!
