For me WOW means lots of layers and textures, which equals Shabby Chic. Shabby Chic is a style of Vintage which for us paper crafters refers back to the 19th Century. 19th Century Victoriana HG Wells, Jules Verne ummm Steampunk.
Ali at Ali Crafts did tell me that there was a White Challenge coming so I had a bit of a heads up, which allowed me to start a bit ahead of time.
Some thick corrugated card was stripped and painted white. Paper perfect in pale blue, quick side track. True white is the absence of all colour like a polar bears fur. what we call white is really grey, pale blue is perfect for adding shadow where you might expect someone to use grey the lightest version of which we call white.
A panel of sticky back canvas painted with pearlscent white, and some white paste spread through a stencil and crackle paste spread over the edge of canvas and card. Using more paste and a Mac style stencil the main image was made on separate card.
Today the base corrugated card painted and sprayed with various white products and the Mac Embossed image given torn edges. White ribbon threaded lace laid over the top from top to bottom. Yesterday visiting Chrissie's blog I saw a fabulous ribbon flower, Chrissie has given us a link to a tutorial but being me I took the idea and made a flower along similar lines using lace. Some white paper roses from years back added and a couple of white pearl topped brads.
The Steampunk bit
A La Blanche steampunkesque clocks and clockworks image stamped and embossed with white WOW Puff ep on a scrap of white card. Stamped again on heat resist acetate embossed this time with WOW Pearly white ep. One laid over the other. Everything in place a final blast of white glimmer mist.
Finally the hanger. I have stacks of beautiful but shabby and unmatched beads some of the white ones have been threaded onto beading line and attached at the top, the hole made to tie the line on filled with more white brads.
Can you tell I had a great time with this piece?
Other Challenges that were in my mind during the making of this are
Suger Creek Hollow - Anything Vintage
Creative Corner - You can't touch this (Texture)
Crafty Creations - Make it yourself (the flower)
Crafting with Dragonflies - Make your own flower Embellishments - No Halloween
Stamping Royalty - Anything Goes
All the challenges entered are followed by Challenges for days, if you know of other challenges that we might not follow we would love to know about them.
