Pack your Bags

Well it was a fabulous week-end with crafty friends but oh so hot.   It's draining isn't it or have I said that before.   This morning was lovely with an overcast sky bringing the temperature down.  Spent the morning looking after the garden and getting some washing out on the line.  About the time I finished out there the sun started coming back out, perfect.

You might have seen a kart vanity case I covered with tine foil recently, well I covered the lid in tin foil, don't think I ever showed you the base.   Anyway it came with a little sister and I've given that a bit of a make over now.

No tinfoil this time.  Wanted a worn shabby chic look without all the bells and whistles, I think I've pulled it off.   Chalk painted the whole case, while it was drying I stamped and die cut the toppers on the lid.  They were then coloured with Chameleon Pens making great use of their unique inbuilt blending possibilities.   The edges of the die cut toppers were given the full DI treatment with layers of colour being blended over.   The key is wooden painted with gold paint, all the flowers and split pins are from my years old dragged around the country stash.

In keeping with the vanity bag theme I used some old tissue tape all around the side of the lid.   More DI dusted lid, sides and base.   The front and sides were freehand stamped with the foliage stamp.  Freehand stamping works with you holding the stamp in your hand no block and pressing it over the area you want.  The beauty of this technique is that the stamping can be patchy and maybe a bit smudged, ideal if you are going for a shabby distressed look.

The base needed to be flat, so a simple stamped image coloured as before and attached with matt modge podge.  I would like to share this with:

  1. You sure did give this vanity case a make over and a beautiful one at that. Lots to look at, textural and fabulous elements. Thank you for the tip about the stamping without the block x. Slightly cooler today with a little breeze x
