I call this "The Izzy Canvas - Lifting the Lid"

Last week my mojo went a little flat as it does for all of us from time to time.  Then on Friday the Granddaughter called rather upset because she had just ended things with her boyfriend.  None to soon in my view but I'm not 22!  Anyway the result of 2 long (3 hour +) phone calls was the idea for this canvas.   Yes I am that patient!

So come Saturday design in mind I ventured into the craft room.  Lots and lots of white things in there a good many of which are scraps/snippets.   Lots of calls from Izzy so lots of interruptions and just to complicate things more I've started walking 1000 + steps every hour.   Still a start got made.

Sunday got some more done including stripping a piece of cardboard down to the corrugations and painting it white with lots of gesso.   The cardboard came from a box flap I save a lot of boxes to store crafty stuff in or use a spray paint booths.  More calls more walking and no TV for me again.

Yesterday Izzy was at work so I was able to cut the green stuff and finally made up some soap I've been meaning to do for a little while.  Don't get me wrong I encouraged Izzy to call me, remember what it was like? you just need to talk about it, verbally examine every little thing in the relationship.  Apportion blame and then go over it all again.  As Izzy's go to person I just let her talk and talk and talk but know that if it was inconvenient all I have to do is let her know and she will understand.

Today all the bits and pieces, random ideas and odd elements finally came together.  All that talking is probably in here somewhere!

So we have a UK A4 size canvas covered with some left over printed tissue, 2 designs the postcard and other vintage printed media one and top right a musical score print.  A dreamcatcher from a stencil with embossing paste.  The head with the top removed freehand cut from white card.  A time piece die embossed onto more white card and then the outer face + hands die cut on more white card or bits of it laid over the embossed piece.

Die cut flowers in white tissue.  The tissue has been saved from a shopping trip don't you love it when you buy some nice clothing and it is wrapped in tissue for you?  The flowers have been layered and air encouraged to separate the various layers all held together with white headed split pins.  Cogs die cut in card and the corragated card these have been layered on, sometimes with a tissue flower on top or in one case there is a tissue flower sandwich.  Die cut Flourishes, a couple of feathers, well even my clever brainy girl has her feather head moments she is blond!

The final touches the words Love and Live stencilled on with Pearl embossing paste, some clear beads have been stuck into the word Life. Oh yes I coiled a spring with some pearl wire and there is a self adhesive pearl on there somewhere.  And nearly forgot white spray paints were used just before the final flourish and the word Life were added.

If you opened your granddaughters head what do you imagine would spill out?

  8. First, how lovely that Izzy comes to you for listening and comfort! and what a lovely piece you created based on this. I like that you used light colors, I feel like it would be very stressful to look at this in a multitude of colors or even white and black. She got it all out of her head so it could fly away from her and she can move on! Thanks for sharing this with us at A Vintage Journey!

  13. Oh Zoe, this is exquisite! So much beautiful detail - I love it! And how lovely that your grand daughter turns to you as a shoulder to cry on. The generation gap has a lot going for it - I was always very much at ease with a great Aunt and she was a good listener too. Izzy is a lucky lady.

    Sorry I'm late commenting!
