All of us have someone in our lives effected by Breast Cancer. You might have suffered it and that in turn might worry you about your descendants. You might have lost friends to it or be in the fortunate position of knowing survivors.
I'm fortunate non of my ancestors are known to have had it, but my Granddaughter's mother is a survivor. Did you know that men can be effected by it as well? Something we don't speak about much but men can and do get it, this is not just a feminine issue.
So today walking around the house the idea of doing a mask took hold. There are always masks blanks waiting for inspiration here because they are so much fun to do.
The theme for the mask is obvious, it's Pink and feminine. First the mask blank was painted with Imagination Crafts Starlights in Antique Pink. While that was drying and the glue gun warming up every pre-made pink flower I own was dug out. Pink brads un-earthed and layers of flowers built up. These were then attached to the mask.
The original idea had been to cover the entire mask in pink flowers but a) There were not enough & b) although I could have die cut some it occurred to me that it looks better like this. Self adhesive Pink gems added, there was going to be some strands of pink ribbon dangling down one side. Another idea that was quickly laid to rest.
So here is my Pink mask in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolute genius!!! I've never seen a mask entered in one of our challenges before and now I want more, so hope you can join us again. The Antique Pink paint is stunning for the mask itself and I think you might the right choice of not covering the whole thing in flowers. I'm loving the soft pink jewels around the eyes, adds some pizazz without being overwhelming. I can't tell you what an amazing idea I think this is, as I can imagine women and men struggling with cancer would often need to wear a mask to hide their emotions. Please, please join us again at TIME OUT!!
