Minx went on her big sleep today

Bless her she continued to go down hill so the tough decision had to be taken.  I don't think Harley fully realises she has gone yet but now he is top cat.

Over the last week I've been working on this project.  It has been a wonderful distraction while Miss Minx was poorly.

The Project is a Lisa Horton bookcase and book covers set.  Having decided I wanted to do this the idea of using my new Dragon mould with air dry clay set the tone.  So clay and moulds for dragon and flowers it did take about 2 days for the dragon to fully dry.  Painted with Acrylic paints and some Starlights.    The leaves are die cut from a couple of scraps of crafters foam and card with shaving foam used recently.   That gave me the idea to try the shaving foam on the box top.  The top had previously been painted black, the shaving foam was mixed with a little Brusho and some green mica powder.  Everything was then stuck in place with Mat Gel.

Then the book covers needed to be made up, there are still 4 smaller spines and 1 of the larger spines to be made up and kept separately.   Once they were constructed the insides were lined with designer papers.  The outsides were also painted black.

Now I set to with different mediums.  Book 1 front a Mandella stencil with clear paste. over the top of the wet paste Perfect Pearls were sprinkled.  On the spine and back I used Glossy Black paste with a cobweb stencil and then sprinkled chunky white and gold EP.  The edges had been rubbed with Treasure gold gilding wax, different shades of which was used on each book and around the edges of the case.

The middle book the owl is a stencil with silver paste and some copper ep sprinkled into it while wet, you cannot see it in these pictures but when you melt the ep it bubbles and adds so much texture and depth to the embossed image.  The spine stamped with embossing ink and Perfect Pearls applied.  The back has been gilded to do this the image stamped in embossing ink, Stamp and Stick melted onto the gilding flakes stuck to that all the fine lines show up beautifully.

More Stencils and pastes, using more than one colour paste in each stencil.  The dragon (front) had green crushed glass added, the phoenix old gold ep.   A stamp and Perfect Pearls added to the spine again.

You might have noticed the dots on the spines top and bottom.  They are the holes where the binding had been threaded through, the lines of thread inside will hold the pages in place when they are added.   On the outer spines a self adhesive gem has been popped over the hole and on the inside the soles filled with glue.

Just in case you are wondering the sides of the case have been covered with designer paper and the back  just given a coat of black paint.  Because this case will sit on a shelf with other things decorations on the sides might get in the way.

I enjoyed making this and hope you have enjoyed hearing about all the work that went into it.
