Take a small fruit crate

The summer before last there was some great offers of easy peel oranges in small crates.  The fruit was delicious and the crates far to good to discard.  I wanted to turn it into a decorative storage case, here is how it went.

First step two layers of white gesso all over the box.
While it was drying some embellishments were made using air dry clay.  Everything had to be left overnight.

To give the box some texture A stencil and embossing paste applied on 3 sides one stencil used 3 ways.  More paste spread over one side giving alternative texture.

Then before the paste had dried green buttons we pushed into it randomly.  Once again the box set aside waiting for the paste to dry.

Day 3

Acrylic paint in Green Gold painted all over the box, including the buttons.  When this single coat of paint was dry and using dries clear embossing paste as adhesive some of the air dry clay pieces were added.

Day 4

Oh yes this took several days between other things and waiting for the various stages to dry.   With all the new additions stuck in place the next coat of green acrylic painted on.

Then I had to think about what, if anything, to do next.  I didn't want to do anything that would spoil it at this stage so it would only be little touches that would enhance the piece.   Sprays offered an opportunity  Green Glimmer Mist, Cosmic Shimmer and others were used, the last one was a Glimmer mist in a golden orange.

Satisfied with that I still felt that something was missing, all I wanted to do was to highlight the textures.  Treasure Gold in green and then in brass applied by finger and then buffed with kitchen paper.

All that remained was to line the box and for that I used a piece of K and Co paper cut down to size.

Remember a few weeks ago I up cycled one of the packages my prescription had been delivered in.  Well this box is just the perfect size to be used as storage for the envelopes when I give them a make over.
