The black journal

Before I started using this journal I'd look at it and ask myself "What on earth possessed you to get a BLACK journal?"  The answer is simple really I love trying new things, experimenting and being different!

So today I wanted to do some Paper Piecing in a CAS style, as you do.  Once in the craft room I decided to use a black background.  Then I decided to use the journal not make a card.

A stroll round blog challenge land had put some of these ideas in my head.  Blank page open I got out an un-used stamp set Rose Stem Script from Chocolate Baroque, white ink and white ep.  Stamped and heat embossed the main image, stamped it again onto some coloured paper each time using inks that corresponded with the paper colour.   Then the bloom and the leaves had to be fussy cut.

Now there are 2 ways to successful fussy cut.  1 if you are cutting out a stamped image to use in a project you will probably want the outline so you have to carefully cut along the outside edge of that.  You don't want a white border around it if you can possibly help it.  This is also the approach you will likely take if you are making a decoupage project or a 3D decoupage project.   2 if you are making a mask to cover a stamped image, or as here paper piecing.  You will want your fussy cut to sit inside the outline already stamped.  To achieve this you have to cut very carefully along the inner outline, by doing this your mask or paper layer should fit exactly, again without white borders.  I have practiced my fussy cutting over the years and feel I might be getting proficient at it.

Fussy cutting done and paper pieces glued in place the frame was drawn around the image and inside the rose stem with a quick glue pen.  Once the glue was ready silver foil rubbed over the glued areas.  White tag die cut and stamped with black ink, the sentiment is from the same stamp set.

Result another black page completed further proving that getting a black journal was actually quite a good idea, hahaha

Thanks so much for sharing your creativity with us at We Love Chocolate Baroque and Stamping Sensations challenges.

As for the Butterfly card, I clearly had a very senior moment when I did those two posts, rather like Lewis on the re-start last week.
