Recently I've been exploring the genre of Art Journals. I have sketch books which art journals basically are but the idea of creating a complete piece on a journal page is still new to me. Never one to get into something half heartedly recently The Craft Store (TV crafters store) had 3 Pink Pig journals with plain card covers. Of course they fell into my shopping cart.
After a couple of days thinking about DT projects I was desperate to do something just for me and having fun with it. Those journals are made to be decorated so thats what I did.
First the cover was painted red with a matt acrylic paint. Then the Tando Skull stencil with Buttermilk acrylic paint, when the paint was dry green and grey Whisper Pens were used through the stencil and around the edge of the paint. Next an Indigo Blu stamp was applied randomly over the cover and 2 colours of Perfect pearls dusted on. The colours were a shade of yellow and another shade of green. Another recent purchase from that shopping channel was some Zuri moulds I tend to use air dry clay with moulds and that was great to use with these new moulds. The finished and dry moth (all least I think it is a moth) painted with an almost fluorescent green over the top copper gilding was touched on by finger. The little bat is Tando Chipboard painted with Imagination Crafts star lite paint in purple with eyes in the same paint as the clay piece. The sentiment stamped in Archival Ink in coffee, it is very inspirational just right for a journal cover.
so it went from this to .......................................................this.

Great job changing that cover. The contrast between the moth and the red on the background is awesome. And the shine of the perfect pearls on those stamps give it a lot of dimension. Thanks for joining us at A Place To Start. María, xx
ReplyDeleteGreat art journal cover! I love the skull and how you’ve designed around it. I love reading how you created the artwork. I hadn’t thought to keep a stencil in place to continue working on the design of it.
