Hats off

Been getting messy again, got to say I am loving this Powertex stuff.   It is delightful and will turn any natural or natural mix fibre into something ornamental.   This time it is an old straw sun hut that got the treatment.  Using an old cotton fat square tattered flowers and tattered leaves were die cut in advance.

First it was the inside/underside that was coated and left to dry.   Carried on with the bronze on the top including the plaited rope with little shells worked into it.  The bird was also coated as were some of the flowers and leaves.   The paper-mache bird stands on its own but it looks better with a little foliage draped at and over it's feet,   Having used up the small amount of bronze I'd poured it was time to start adding ivory to the rest of the die cuts and introduce them to the project.   I had also cut some short lengths of teeshirt cotton, coated this with the ivory Powertex and then rolled them up and attached then to the bird.   Might add a few more of these later just want to see how the overall project feels after a few days.  The final touches are dry brushing with coloured pigment suspended in a varnish.  This time I've used yellow and gold, one of the joys of dry brushing is the way the colour transfer just keeps going you think the brush is empty give another quick brush to check and discover  yet more colour as been added.

Powertex projects can be used as outdoor decorations provided they are fully coated which stiffens the fabrics and seals them.   This hat is intended for an outdoors life, just have to work out how to secure it so it does not blow away.
