Halloween Season

Between now and the end of the month the theme is halloween card challenges and in the shops spooks are everywhere.  I'm not it's biggest fan at least not in its modern form but it is one of those pre christian throwback celebrations whose origins are lost in the mist and written history of the past. A celebration of the seasons change.  A time of year when the hours of dark are longer than the daylight hours, when woodland decay is fruiting fungus sprouting on tree trunks.  Dew bejewelled spiders webs spreading  overnight across the garden, falling leaves and toadstool rings and those mists rising on and shrouding river banks.   Halloween is a celebration of the old gods, we might have forgotten them but have they forgotten us?

Here is my little halloween tribute.   The background paper is a scrap of hand made back ground I'd completely forgotten about found it hiding in a box of stamps while looking for an Elusive Images plate of autumn fruits.   The stamps were used on bits of card left after die cutting something else.  Fussy cut and coloured with ProMarkers they go well with the Tando laser cuts owl and bat, these were painted with DecoArt acrylics black green purple and orange.   The frame more left over white card, the inner has been saved for another day, the frame painted black.  The purple base card is also a bit of a rescue it has been near a window and now has fade marks in places none of which are visible here.  Finally the word Halloween, just in case you could not work it out for yourself, stamped in gold and embossed with WOW fine gold ep.   Little touches of Treasure gold used to edge things here and there.

Made as a tent card it really is a tribute/decoration in honour of those old gods.   I'm also sharing this with.

The cats appear to want attention! Surely it is early for food.

  2. Love this card Zoe! It's spooky enough without being too scary :)

I thought that cats would enjoy a little titbit at most times of the day? Our neighbours cats try to elbow their way into the hedgie food we leave out so we had to devise a way of covering the food enough so that they're thwarted and so that the hedgies can feed in peace!

  3. Your Halloween piece is lovely, and good that you wrote a bit about it, so many have no idea what it's all about. I caught a spider trying to march into my living room this morning - I threw it out again! Hugs, Valerie
