Washed up

There is a story to this canvas, isn't there always?   The Humber inspired this project one area especially, Barton was the home of the rope making industry locally and the old rope factory is a fascinating place to visit.   Part of the works were out doors in a section known as the rope walk this leads to what is now a nature reserve.   There is a trickle feeding into the Humber at this point, there are muddy banks that make me think of primordial earth, bare mud with the marks of running water veining it down to the trickle and then into the river itself.

These pictures taken a few years ago might give you an idea of the area I'm trying to describe.   The impression I got then has remained with me.   Can't you just picture those first creatures climbing out of the water and starting life on land?  Of course bring the focus back out and the modern world pops into view, there's the Humber bridge.  Somewhere I love to drive over, I've not walked it yet, the climb up is more than I can contemplate at the moment.

So with this imagery in mind this canvas got started.   The base layer is bronze/brown Powertex spread over with some texture balls included.   Some ribbon and and a natural fibre shower scrunchy were coated with Ivory Powertex and laid over the canvas.   The shell came with a scallop I treated myself to, and some Viva Terra applied to add more texture.   Then I lost my way and set it aside for a year or two.

The canvas has been scratching away inside my head for a little while.  Looking at it again decided to spray it with Glimmer Mists sprays in Blue, Purple, & Pink.   Looking better more texture, florists moss and some hessian ribbon.  More Glimmer Mist spray, this time Green.   The note in the little bottle reads Help!, Glossy Accents secured the bottle and it's cork.  Finally shell pearls, I'm not a fan of these for my jewellery they came in a kit and were set aside.

So there you have it Humber Inspired, All Washed Up.  Sharing it with
