PSX Botanical stamps

For years I have collected rubber stamps, all sorts of stamps all sorts of images.  Generally new stamps and when possible red rubber on wooden mounts.   One style that has been especially attractive is the PSX/Inkadinkado Botanical stamps.  Some were new, some second hand all are loved and have been used many times in many ways.

On this journey of post cards and rediscovery of paper crafting I decided to use those that I have and make a series of postcards with them.  There is a nagging suspicion that one has been missed but no idea which or where it is.  You can be sure if/when it comes to light I'll make something with it and share it on this blog.

One of the earliest stamps I got is this Canna Lily which was new/unused and which has subsequently been used many times but never quite like this.   First the flower was stamped in green and then again on eclipse paper to make a mask.  Next the little bee (stampin' up) and finally the butterfly (Kaiser craft), both of which were also masked.  Next a Tim Holtz stencil and adirondack ink, then a cloud stencil and thirdly one with a floral design on one side and script on the other.    The masks were removed and the images coloured with felt pens.

This "dog" rose is a PSX image this one is smaller than the others but has all the hallmarks of the Botanical range.  This is the only Landscape format in the set, stamped in brown and coloured with Spectrum Noir liquid watercolour.   It was far to CAS for my taste so the feather stamp (Hot off the Press cover stamp) made a nice bracket for it.

The Hybrid Rose is by Inkadinkado very much in the same style as the PSX stamps.  My suspicion is that when PSX ceased this company took the range, and maybe the artist, on to continue them.   A previously used colour scheme came to mind for this one.  Once again stamped in brown layers of colour applied with my trusty felt pens.   The pinks were added with ink dusters love these as they allow very subtle colour which can be built up and blended easily.

The House that Stamps Built - Spring Flowers

The Hydrangea is PSX and date marked 1999.  A very pretty plant whose colour depends on the ph of the soil it is grown in.  To reflect this the plant is stamped in blue and coloured with shades of purple so it is between the pink and blue that it can be.  Once again I used masks for the flower and the butterflies (Kaiser Craft).  Top and bottom of the card another abstract stamp used.  Of course colouring was with those felt pens again while the ink duster applied colour to the edges.

On to the Pansies an Inkadinkado stamp.  This card started with the background, bartered in shades of purple.  Pansies stamped and coloured Bee added and coloured (not sure where the bee is from).   Green ink dusted up from the bottom so the flowers are not just floating on a purple sea.

The Poppies stamp is PSX date 1995, technically it is an antique, but perfectly useable.   The butterflies are red rubber on foam and also from the last century but the name of the manufacturer is lost now.

A Vintage Journey - Beautiful Blooms

This sunflower is Inkadinkado and this card was the last of the series I've made this time round.   Once again the background is bartered, the butterfly is another red rubber on foam and the sentiment that reads "Think thoughts that make you happy" is from Hero Arts.

The Wisteria also PSX but undated.  This was the first postcard made in this series, the one that stated this little project off.  Sorting through to find this stamp was such a trip down memory land and rediscovery.   So the brayering started with this one, the use of felt pens and layering of colour with them.   The butterflies are one stamp from that set of red rubber on foam, the sentiment is in a script that is just beautiful (Hot off the Press).

Finally in this set of postcards a PSX stamp, an Azalea.  As with the Canna Lily I wanted the flower to be basically white.  A little research on the WWW and I found a striking flower with pink edges so that was the starting point.  A lighter pink was used first and that colour has been touched lightly in the petals.  To mask the whole image would have been tough but I was able to just mask the top of the flowers so that the butterfly (Hobby Art) could flit just behind.

As with all the post cards I've shared over the last couple of weeks these are all 6" x 4".  All the cards are one layer so that they can go in the post.  As they are to be used then it is not possible to use any medium that will bleed through.   This group have been a lot of fun and writing up this blog about them gave me the opportunity to review what I have done and learnt with the set.

As always in these unusual times stay safe, stay well and have fun!.  If you would like a post card please let me know all comments are moderated so anything of a personal nature will not be published.
