A friend of mine has recently started her blog. Now most of you who see this will have been blogging for a while. But you probably still remember how frustrating it was to get your blog up and running. After all we all like comments, especially nice ones, and it is our world wide crafting community that really appreciates what we are sharing and how we created it.
MortiCraft is the name of my friends blog it would be lovely if you could click on it and take a moment to visit her. If you were to pass along this message about her give away that would be even kinder.
Oh yes didn't I mention she is giving away blog candy to 3 luck people. Here is what she says;
"Just a short post from me this morning. As this is a new blog I’m looking to get some more traffic to it so I am running a giveaway. Anyone already following my blog will be automatically be entered but please do tell your friends to get involved too. All they have to do is follow my blog. 😁
There are some Tattered Lace dies, Clearly Besotted and Apple Blossom stamps to be won by THREE lucky winners. Winners will be drawn at random on 11th Aug. "
Now back to me a this Mini chest I've been working on.
It came as a very good quality flat pack kit that needed to be fitted and glued together, that took about a day. It measures 9 1/4" wide x 6 3/4" deep x 6 5/16 tall. The draw is lined with Foamiran which is a great lining material, if you don't use it to make flowers! and will protect anything silver you put in the draw from the wood it is made of. Direct contact with wood will speed up the tarnishing process meaning you will need to more frequently clean/polish your silver items. The top section is lined with crafting paper, but I am not sure if the acid and lanolin removal is sufficient to protect your silver from wood tarnish.
Next came the embossed metal panels. I confess to "cheating" with the top piece, over working coated metal removes the coating so I ran this through my big shot and then refined the embossing with detail tools. The copper side pieces were hand embossed from scratch. Another time consuming but very rewarding thing to do. Before fixing the top piece some 12" x 12" scrapbook paper/card was cut down with an aperture to go over the panel, everything was then secured with Gel medium and Tissue Tape. Another piece of the same paper has been used to cover the back of the chest.
The side panels were also secured with Gel Medium and Tissue Tape, using Gel Medium over tissue tape increased the adhesion. The knob on the front of the draw has a silver finish but I used Alchemy Wax in Copper to cover this. The same wax was also applied to the wooden scrolls above the draw. I then got to play with Frantange, Crushed Glass and flakes in Green and Copper. At this point I thought I was finished but after a couple of days decided it need a little more embellishment. I mixed some copper mica powder with Pearlised embossing paste and pushed the resulting pale copper paste through a couple of stencils.
All in all it took about a week on and off to complete this but the result is a lovely trinket box to hold some of my treasures.
