Skulls are nice

All vertebrates have one.   Yet we in the "west" associate them with negative things.  Ok so you will probably never see your own or that of your close friends and family.  A skull can though be said to house the person, the skull protects the organ that directs and controls our actions both conscious un-conscious and sub-conscious.  It is an impulse from the brain that causes us to breath, did you know we are the only animal that can consciously control their breathing?   Somehow our brain stores our memories, the things that we learn are embedded in our brain.  Our skulls are all that protect the soft organ from everything else!

Other cultures (generally older vanished ones) reverenced their forebears embracing their remains and giving them respected status in their lives.  The practice is remembered today with the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations.

Today artists use the skulls of different animals to get an insight into how they look fully fleshed.  Where in their appearance does bone and skull shape dictate shape and where will there be soft flesh that curves and moulds between the bony parts.  We have probably all seen the facial reconstructions made by very skilled, knowledgable artists.

Did you know that in the human race that are 3 distinct skull types?  European, African and Asian.   Archaeologists can learn so much about our past by the "discovery" of our human remains.   Skulls are beautiful and one way or another hold all our secrets.

This celebration of the skull was created using; A Tando skull stencil colour dusted over and then the stencil shapes outlined.  Scrap vellum from a previous die cut, there are 2 flower outlines in it the one at the bottom trimmed so that just the outline overhangs the skull.  Green base card randomly stamped with a flower in another shade of green.  Pink floral die cuts that did not get used in another project.  Between the skull and the base card there is a fabulous new diet, I did not realise that I have this die and am now madly in love with it, it is just so wonderfully full of holes.

I am sharing this with NBUS my Never Before Used Stuff is the die with lots of holes in it.
And with Monthly themes for crafting a FB group whose prompt this month is an ex-ray of a skull.
