Oh yes it has been a full year since I started joining in with More Than Words. Prior to that I was a bit of a lurker! Then a challenge theme "goodbye" trigged me and this little journal got started. Since then how ever clear or cloudy the prompt was to me I've made a page. Now there are 12 the cycle is complete.
This time the prompt is Hero and Paint.
The paint is that stroke of blue in the top half. Hero? Umm a man wearing his underpants over a pair of tights? A child wearing a cap and running so it flows behind him playing at being a Super Hero? An adored father who can do no wrong in his children's eyes. The boy friend who whips you off your feet and carries you away? A solider? The quiet chap in the office who never says much but who steps up and offers the suggestion that saves the day?
Notice that the word is Hero a masculine word and that the ideas it generates are mostly if not all men. We have Heroines but that have been historically portrayed as vapid light weight girls who faint at the first sign of trouble. Or in more up to date tellings they are just like the men except their costumes are designed to accentuate their full voluptuous figures, making them more sexually attractive to men!
Oh yes as has so often been the case with these challenges my mind and imagination went for a bit of a wander into the word and how it is used! In these LGBT times when pronouns are more important than ever I try to see people and all their different traits. So one of the above is the Hero(ine) the other the sidekick hahaha
Here is the completed journal
It contains die cuts, stamping, Tando Chipboard, writing, colouring, embossing paste, Washi tape, drawing, fussy cutting and printed paper. All bond together with jewellery making elastic and some grey board. At times it was tough but I am so glad that I did this. Thank you More Than Words. I don't know if I'll be back or if/when I am in what format but it has been fun!

Great journal page! Your fish looks a little steampunk! I have had similar thoughts about the scantily clad superhero females, and about females in general who don't want to be objectified and then...
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, I am here to comment on you lovely journal page. It is fabulous, and congratulations on completing the 12 month cycle. Thanks for sharing your journey with us at 613 Avenue Create!
