At this time or year, or maybe during the previous 2 months, it is usually a delight driving around the English countryside and seeing all the wild Poppies. These bright flowers in the verges and around the edges of fields are so cheerful. This year was quite disappointing, at least here in Lincolnshire, where I drive from one market town to another for work, as there were very few Poppies to be seen. In fact other than at one farmyard to road boundary there were more wild Poppies to be seen in Grimsby than in the surrounding countryside.
This makes me sad both because they are such a cheerful sight and because the lack of them means that there are fewer wildflowers/plants to provide for our inscect wildlife, bees, butterflies, hover flies and so many more we don't even notice.
I do however have an ever growing collection of Poppy stamps, and mugs. The one I used for this card is brand new, it was only will strolling around blogland that I realised that it is permissible to use brand new stamps. They are not like paper but if looked after will last so don't need saving and stroking.
So I cut into my new Chocolate Baroque plate. Once trimmed and glued to an acrylic block, news flash you do not need cling mounted rubber stamps in fact unmounted they are more versatile, the stamp was inked with black Memento and applied once to a card blank and a second time to a piece of scrap card.
The scrap card image was then selectively coloured with ProMarkers. Using a steel ruler and craft knife tiles were then cut out of the coloured image. Each tile was edged in black with the ink pad and then mounted over the image on the base card. Each tile has been set at a different height as well.
The idea to do this card in this way came from Less is More #448 CASe the shown card by Elaine. For this card the elements selected from Elaine's card were, the central placement of the image, a floral image and of course the tiles. Thank you for such lovely inspiration.

What a striking and fabulous card. The edging of the black looks great and what an eye catching design. Funny enough it is the first time this year I had poppies and boy did the bees love them x. Second photo style is my proffered option with a little more zooming in on the card x.
ReplyDeleteSo who was the enabler for this crafty purchase I wonder Zoe, personally I'm taking no responsibility whatsoever.

Ooh I do love those tiles and the spotlight colouring, very clever. I am sorry you haven't seen many poppies where you live, there have been loads here (Suffolk coast). I love them too. I like to see the tools used to make the card in the photo, but also like the focus on the card, which is why I usually include both on my posts. How extravagant is that? xx
