Pink Sparkling Princess

It's Isabella's birthday on Sunday, so I've sent her a card and present.  Her Mum tells me she has received so I can share the card with you now.

Izzy is a very pretty and petite young woman, just coming out of her teens now.  Izzy and I share a joke about her being a Pink Sparkly Princess, she is also a big fan of the late Amy Winehouse so my card referenced this.

Sweet poppy stencil.  Imagination crafts glitter embossing paste.  Old sentiment stamp embossed with WOW pink pearl ep.  Old card stock Stampin' up.

Happy Birthday darling Izzy.   I'm sharing your card with;

Crafting by Designs - Pink with one other colour.   Mine might be rather plain by comparison with the beautifully coloured images the DT here have shared for inspiration.

Inspirational Challenge - picture prompt.  Look how bright those wellingtons are, bright pink was the way to go here.

Cards in Envy - No patented paper.  I've kept this CAS the stencil image says everything.

The Paper Girls - Embossing, two kinds of embossing here the sentiment and the embossing paste (three if you count the dry embossed sentiment inside).

Unicorn Challenge - Make it girly.  This is a monthly challenge I've not entered before but the theme is perfect and I dreamt about unicorns last night!

Nice day here today think I might risk a potter in the garden.

To put it in black and white

Is it just me or is it getting a little warmer?   Popped over to the shop this morning without a coat on and played in the overgrown green area at the back of the house.   It was really quite pleasant.   It's clock change weekend as well thats always a sign of spring/summer, for those of you who work it means that next week you will be leaving work while it is still light (assuming you work day time hours that is).

Really should be working on some jewellery but since getting back into paper crafting again I sometimes get more of a pull from that direction.   Today is one of those days perhaps because I still have a couple of stamps out.

Went looking on Challenges for days to see if any themes inspired me, and there was.  A black and white challenge with Allsorts.   This is irresistible.   Stamped the image in Black Archival ink onto very smooth white card stock then touched it in places with silver alchemy wax.    6 inches x 4 inches piece of black card stock cut down and squirted just once with white spray.   Two pieces of card attached to each other.  A strip of white and black tissue tape along the bottom.   Then for a touch if bling the waste from a hole punch.

Also sharing this with

Double D Challenges - This fortnightly challenge is new to me but they are and interesting group of people.  Their prompt at the moment is "Just Wing It".

Creates and Makes Challenge - A monthly challenge who always show interesting work   With their Anything Goes theme.

Tea time now.

The birds are nesting

Have you seen any birds around with twigs in their beaks?   It is one of the most satisfying sights you know that eggs will be laid and little chicks hatched.   Spring watch will be on TV soon with all those little spring babies to delight us all.

Driving around recently I spotted birds carrying nest building materials, no lambs in sight here and a threat of snow at Easter but I'm feeling very spring like.

Feeling chuffed with myself as I've used another piece of designer paper, the stash is now one sheet less.   The stamped image is a Stampendous stamp which I've coloured Chameleon Pens taking full advantage of their blending effects.   Then it was just a cast of working out which die shape to use, each option seemed better than the last so used the last one in the end.   With the die still in place the edge was dusted with blue DI.

Another page for my Tando book/journal.

Colour Crazy Craft Challenge - This fortnightly challenge is always anything goes but your project must include some hand colouring.

Try it on Tuesday - The call of Spring.   This challenge in it's original format of Tuesday Taggers was the first I joined the DT of.   It has changed a lot since then but still going strong.

Sisterhood of Crafters - Their theme is Birds.   Had to smile as one of the DT samples uses this stamp as does another entry.

Art in a bad mood

It is a kinda therapy.    Not in the best of places today but looking forward to meeting up with a friend for lunch tomorrow that'll set me right.

So looking to settle my mind today a visit to the craft room appealed.   It was certainly not going to be a "nice", or "pretty" this time expressive certainly.    The background is a Brushos laid down a couple of years ago and kept just in case.   The stamps are Indigo Blu and several years old.   Hot air ballon stamped in Archival black, the same ink used for the Victorian gentleman which was stamped on plain card and cut out.    ProMarkers used to add a couple of dashes of colour and blacken the inked image.

To give the ballon a little lift the right hand edge has been gilded with gilding flakes.   Finally some gold coloured wax was touched and dragged down the right hand edge of the tag and the right hand edge of the gentleman.   Oh yes nearly forgot 10 was added with more gilding flakes just because.

So not pretty but it helped and IRL I'm rather pleased with the results.   Why a tag?  just because they are a quick format that I quite like.

I wonder if these people will like it.

Craftaholics R Us - Wednesday weekly challenge with an Anything Goes theme.

I Love ProMarkers - Gosh I've been working with these pens for years now and they still my go to colouring medium.

Creates and Makes - This is a monthly challenge who currently have an Anything Goes theme.

Crafty Calendar - Another monthly challenge whose March prompt is Add a Tag or Make one.

Mix it up - This challenge is always anything mixed media goes, and their March prompt is Make your own Background.   Told you I'd seen this theme somewhere!

OK Mrs Grumpy here is going to have a cup of coco and watch some mindless TV.

Snowdrops are quite possibly my favourite flower.   They are springs advance bloom along with Hellebore they will flower with snow on the ground.   My Snowdrops were out in full force earlier this month.

Sadly I have only found one Snowdrop stamp but it is the perfect image and does come out at this time of year.   Yesterday during my crafting binge I made this postcard.

Snowdrops stamped I made a mask with quite a bit of fussy cutting to allow the background to peep through.   Mask in place my stencil placed sunshine yellow dusted over it.   The mask removed the image coloured with felt tip pens.  Next 4 or 5 different shades of DI were dusted over the edges of the card.   I did consider putting the mask back and stamping the snowdrops again "behind" the first image.   Then the solution hit me drops of water onto the dusted background.   By now the stencil marks were looking a little faded so I went over them with a yellow felt tip pen.   Finally some glossy accents on the 4 foremost flowers.

There were a couple of challenges in mind for this one.

Artistic Stamper - Sponsored by the business of the same name this monthly challenge is open to all mediums and styles.  Their challenge this month is Stencils and Masks.

Country View Challenges - My second postcard for their postcard challenge this month.

Take it Make it - This is the Craft Stamper magazine challenge.  All this year their monthly challenges are anything goes.

Unfortunately I have not found the Make your own Background challenge I'd seen somewhere.

This year is the first for several years that I do not have my own made calendar and it seems odd so one of my projects for the rest of this year is to make next years calendar.

Green Bird

Well it is a miserable day, and the battery on my cordless vacuum his died.  Apparently if you do not use your cordless vacuum frequently the battery left on charge gives up!  Perhaps I should have cleaned the kitchen floor or something but after my last post my craft room put out another call to me.  Well what choice did I have in view of that.

There are a lot of green themed/spring themed challenges out there at the moment they were part of the inspiration for this CAS postcard.

I've never inked this little Stamping' up bird before today became the day.   Inked with Sepia Archival, and then stamped again to make a mask.   Tando brickwork stencil overlaid the masked image and dusted with Crushed Olive DI.   Un masked the bird was coloured with ProMarkers in different shades of green, the shale colour was used for the branch.

Hay Presto a CAS card, a fun little green bird.   So who sent me off down this path?

Addicted to CAS - This fortnights code word is BIRDs.   It is always worth checking out what this team does they have a brilliant range of styles but always keep it CAS.

Challenge up your life - Another fortnightly challenge seems a lot of good challenges are fortnightly now.   This time their prompt is Stencils.

Less is More - This challenge is 7 or 8 years old now, originally stated by two friends on from Southampton the other from the Isle of White.  They have both now moved on but have left a talented team in there place all of whom honed their CAS skills and style with this challenge.   Another fortnightly challenge looking this time for Stencils and One Layer.

CAS-ual Fridays - Final challenge this post.  An interesting fortnightly challenge with another fascinating team.   In honour of St Patricks day they are Going Green.

Nearly time to eat, think the chef is doing something special today.

Yes it's Spring, you can tell by the snowfall

Well it is not so unusual weather we are having, Snow, Sun, Hail, Wind & Rain.  Here in the UK we do not thankfully get the weather extremes experienced in some other parts of the world.  But nature does like to tease us with 4 seasons in one day.   Today might just be that day.

One of my hobbies is genealogy and with the help of DNA testing has been helping me to double check "discoveries" and fill in gaps.   This week I was able to send to a 4th cousin in New Zealand information about one of his lines that he had not completed much on.   Then someone else asked for some help with her Sanderson line, no relationship found, but I was able to send her some of the information she was looking for.  Turns out she is not so confident on computers whereas I just march on in there to find what I want!  Which of us is right I wonder?

In between there was a jewellery order to complete and send to Australia, how pleased am I with that!  Finished a birthday card for Granddaughter but cannot share that yet.   Made Granola, now this you might think is not worth a mention but it was the first time I'd made it.   With my Chef son here we have a cupboard full of ingredients but he had a cold and I do like my cereal breakfast so it had to be done.   Think the result of his visit might mean I spend more time in the kitchen when he goes back to London.

All the time I wanted to get into the craft room and eventually managed a little while there yesterday and finished this piece for my 6" fat book project today.

This project is allowing me to re discover old techniques and styles.  It also allows me to indulge myself in experimenting with mix ups I've not tried before.

Designer papers are something I have a whole pile  Mountain of but have rarely used.  I love all the vibrant bold colours and designs of these papers but find them hard to incorporate into my style and or cannot imagine covering them.

Here I managed to use a page of Crafty Individual paper it is packed with Spring/Summer colour while the flowers make a nice backdrop.   Over this is stamped acetate, the stamp is probably more than 5 years old certainly more than 2 it is an Inkylicious stamp used with Stayzon.  The acetate used to be part of a booklet cover, I rescued lots of these while I worked locally before they went into the shredder.   Vellum heart has been embossed with a Sweet Poppy stencil another old technique it felt good to use again, it has been stuck to the page with silicon dots at the point.  Finally snowdrops this stamp is more than 6 years old I cannot now remember the manufacture it was one of those smallish UK companies that sprang up at the height of stampings popularity.   The image was fussy cut allowing the delicate flower heads to move.

Lots of different techniques brought into play for this page!   Now sharing it with

Retro Rubber - Their current theme is a tic tac toe and I'v used the far right column Embossing, Green, Vellum.

Crafty Girls Corner - Make it green, my favourite colour.

That's Crafty! - A monthly challenge that appeals to me this month with the theme Spring into Action.   Feel pretty sure I sprang into this one.  sorry.

Is it Spring yet?

Meteorologically yes but the actual solstice is not until the 20/21 March, so it is almost spring but the promise of it is appearing.   My snow drops are looking lovely tucked away as they are if a bit late this year.

I'm also marking the passing of a great man today Prof. Stephen Hawkins who has died aged 76.   He was remarkable for his knowledge and understanding of the universe and for the way he explained it to the lay person making the discoveries even more interesting and relevant.   His appearance on Star Trek Generations playing poker with Einstein and Data was we are told a high point for him.   Sleep well Professor.

A couple of posts ago or maybe it was just the last one I mentioned that I was working on a pearl heavy piece.   All finished now and one became a set, here they are.

Each pearl had to be threaded onto a head pin and then attached to a chain or jump ring with a jump ring.   But the finished pieces are worth it.

And I managed a little inkiness as well.

Some stamping here and lots of stencil work.  Distress Inks and Adirondack inks all brushed over the stencils.   Memento ink used for the stamping and ProMarker for the journaling.   As is all to often the case had not idea where this was going or how it would turn out until it was finished when it pleased me very much.

Sharing this with.

Inspiration Destination - Fortnightly anything goes challenge with a twist.   This time the twist is Spring or Pastel colours.   My Journal page seems to fit the twist quite well, hope these talented girls agree.

Words 2 Craft by - A monthly challenge who are looking to see how the words in the image below inspire you.  In honour of Woman's History Month.

Everybody Art Challenge - Always anything goes.

Love to Create Challenge - A favourite anything mixed media challenge of mine.

OK so Harley cat has to go to the vet for his annuals now.   See you all later.

Happy Mother's Day

This was a different Mother's Day for me.  With my son stopping with me and spoiling me anyway with excellent food it was really nice to just have him here to say those magic sounding words,  It has been known for him to remember at about 10pm and send a FB message before now!  Next year normal service will have resumed so I'm making the most of this.

At home I'm in the middle of a pearl heavy necklace, need another 30 or more pearls.  Finding that paper-crafting is a welcome break again.  Tags have always been a favourite thing of mine todo and this afternoon it was fun to just have a little inky mixed media play.

Good old TH tag die, stamped and masked with the Clarity blossom branch and a little Stamping' up bee.   A TH tag stencil and Distress ink dusted over, more DI dusted over the tag in yellow and blue.  Masks removed ProMarkers used to colour main images making them really pop, the little bees wings were coloured with Sakura pen.   A little blue ribbon and bow just completed this tag.

Of course I checked a few challenges for inspiration before I started, they are.

Challenge up your life, going round and reacquainting myself with challenges I'm inspired by the new look many of them have and the work that is still going into keeping them fresh.   This challenge is a case in point with their theme for the fortnight of Tags.

Fashionable Stamping - This challenge has been around for a few years now, with some of the original team still making inspiring samples.   Another thing I've always loved is that this is a stampers challenge no digis allowed.   For Fashionable Stamping it is Spring time.

My time to Craft - Another fortnightly challenge that I used to enjoy and it is great to see them still here.   Their current prompt is Easter/Spring

Right I'm going back to being spoilt for the rest of the day.

Washing on the Line!

It did not stay out there long but it was nice to be able to hang things out there for a little while.   Spring is here and the sun will show it's face again soon.    Then in another 4/5 months we will probably be complaining that it is to hot.

With the season in mind crafters are turning to spring themed projects and I am no exception.  Don't need much excuse I happen to love the colour green.

Green acetate makes the card while a very old Do Crafts stamp was used for the image.  Carefully coloured the image with ProMarkers in yellow, blue and green.   Blue Stickles dotted in the daffodil centre's.   An old die cut the shape for an exact square and there is an identical one attached to the inside for a message.  I know I said I was not going to make cards but the idea for this one appealed to me.

Here are some of those spring and green themed challenges.

More Mixed Media - I knew there was another specific challenge I had in mind for this.   Their theme is Green!

Cards in Envy - A fortnightly card making challenge and their theme this time is "Green Things".

Crazy for CAS - This is a Dutch based monthly challenge and new to me, but I like their prompt "Spring" and thought I''d share this with them.

The Paper Players - I like these girls their rules are simple, loud and clear no nonsense here.  Hopefully they have been obeyed by my entry.  Theme Spring has Sprung.

Now I need a little gift box and have a couple of boxes that need altering so should be able to sort that out quite easily, craft room I'm coming....

White and not so shabby

Spring is here, that cold blast seems to have been replaced by much warmer temperatures although some water is still falling from the skies now and again.

The kitchen is starting to turn white replacing the pink.  Can you imagine the whole room this colour, well actually it is more than just the one room.

Now thanks to Mark is it turning white, although he has had the bright idea of adding a black board behind the door, seen open here.    Standing with my back to the window and seeing this expanse of white is so nice.  When Mark suggested the black board he asked if I was indulging him, truth yes I am but he is a great artist and his graffiti when he was younger testified to that, tells me to trust him in this.

While Mark has worked his magic in the kitchen, these days his food is his art, I played in the next room.  This jewellery box started as a Kraft box waiting to do what ever you wanted to do to it.   Shabby Chic is what it cried out to me to have.   I'll not talk you through all the techniques applied, you know them all already.   Suffice that it has taken several days and lots of drying time.

There were one or two challenges in mind when I was doing this.

Everybody Art - A fortnightly challenge that has stood the test of time.  It is so nice to see so many of the older challenges are going strong and inspiring people as much as they do.   The theme here this fortnight is Pearls and Lace.

Artistic Inspirations - Another fortnightly challenge who just like to see what we have been doing, so Anything Goes.

Love to Create - I just love this monthly anything goes challenge, they attract entires from some fantastic artists.   Go check them out for yourself.

Creative Artiste - A monthly Mixed Media challenge.   This sort of opportunity to show off your work is terrific, looking around you see so many wonderful and inspiring ideas.

Eclectic Ellapu - Always Anything goes this time with the theme Spring is Coming.

The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge - The instruction for this challenge is to use a stencil and at least 3 different mediums.   I've used the Sweet Poppy Feather stencil with a glittery embossing paste.   Under that is Decoupage paper and glue.   Then there is Tissue Tape, Powertex, and 3 different colouring mediums.  Not to mention paper flowers stamped and fussy cut flower shapes, cotton doily, lace and some recycled beads.

A very quiet Sunday

Well the snow is gone, at least from here and now the windows need cleaning.   I ask you snow and then rain how did the windows get do mucky?  Answers on a post card please.

My baby boy (he is 44) has started to paint the kitchen oh what a relief all that ghastly pink is being hidden behind some lovely white.   Mind you the kitchen is in chaos and the cats a bit confused about the location of their food.   As said baby boy is also chief chef and bottle washer for the duration of his visit our evening meal might be a bit on the light side today.   I think we will survive.

Has given me plenty of time to play both with my jump rings,

And inks, stamps, paints and things.   The main project is still a work in progress but I have done a couple of post cards.   The 6" x 4" format of post cards is one of my favourites they are a great size for framing.

This first one was a practice with my brayer and one of my old Big and Juicy pads.  It is an Autumn scene so untimely for us in the northern hemisphere but I do love these Clarity stamps.   The colouring was done with Whisper Pens.

The other postcard I've come up with is another experiment mixing a masked image with a stencil.   The 1960's Bob Fosse style girl.   The stamp is from Stamps Happen and like all mine has been in my collection for years but I just love her.    The stencil is from Dylusions.

I've used Promarkers to colour the image, the stencil was dusted over with DI Barn Door Red.

I'm sharing this cool chick with

Allsorts -  A weekly Saturday challenge that started just after I started this blog!  The theme this week is Ladies only

CAS on Friday - Hope I've got the right theme this fortnight! One Layer Wonder.

Country View Challenges - This monthly challenge has a DT and styles that appeal to me.  This time the prompt is Postcards 6" x 4" and inspired me to use this format.

A pinch and a punch it's the 1st of the month!

Well goodness me it has been a month, 28 days, since I re-entered the papercraft world.  What an adventure it is proving to be, firstly I must thank Christi for welcoming me back with such enthusiasm.  Sweetheart all your comments here and in other places have been accepted with open arms.

Here we are up to our ankles in snow and there is a cold icy cold wind blowing in from the east.   Living near the Mother Sea on the Humber estuary we do not get the snow as badly as they do more inland some of those reports of chaos are real.   We are tucked up indoors Mark (Son) is threatening the kitchen today and not as a chef!  Finally some of the dreadful pink is meeting it's fate wit layers of white paint.   All that and top restaurant quality food every evening I am being very spoilt and loving every moment of it.

And I've been back in the Craft Room.   Just after Christmas when these things are marked down I treated myself to a box of chocolates, as you do, they came in a lovely box.   Box saved until now.  Th bit of ribbon was carefully removed as was the acetate in the lid, that sales label was not going to rub of nicely so it had to go.

The box was then covered with decoupage paper, just one layer so the patten on the box also shows through.  The rough edges were covered with tissue tape.   The next step was to decorate the new piece of acetate.   A stencil and green sparkly embossing paste did the job, it took a little while longer than usual to dry but the wait was so worth it.   The same paste and a different stencil decorated the corners of the box.  Gilding paste rubbed over the box to give is some ageing and disguise a couple of rough edges.   It then sat for a couple of days while it decided what it needed, if anything, next.

The light colours and predominance of green were starting to give this a light and spring feel.  Rummaging through my box of old scrap jewellery some yellow plastic beads waved to me.  Breaking the necklace thread and adding these with silicon glue was a simple task.   Finally all that remained was some sort of floral decoration.  I settled on a Sizzix set and nearly drove myself sane trying to get a decent cut.  Tried two different machines, running through with and without wax paper, running through once and running through several times.  End result one run with wax paper job completed with cutting knife.   Now it is a lovely gift box for future use.

This box is for sharing with

Altered Eclectics - Monthly mixed media/Altered repurposed challenge Anything goes with a Spring feel.
