Sometimes you have just gotta

And this little project was just one such!

I've had this wooden panel waiting to be used for a while, seems I have a lot of those sorts of things and the mountain grows is it a compulsion?

Then of course there are challenges that trigger creativity.   The first of these is Suger Creek Hollow, a new theme of Water Water, Everywhere was posted yesterday.   The Ancient Mariner we studied that at school a very bleak story not sure we got to the end.  Suger Creek Hollow is a vintage style challenge, I never seem to get it quite right and this is no exception but hay thats the point of a challenge to make you try, yes?   The other challenge is Fashionable Stamping and their challenge posted today is Scrip/Books/Pages/ Print  ummm somehow the three fused into the this.

There are of course other challenges, more abut them later, first though what I did.

In the close up you can see some of the magazine print below the image and the gesso.

First the script, pages of a magazine torn out and given a white gesso wash.    Some textured card embossed with a new deep impression folder and trimmed to fit the base of the panel.     A sheet of the gessoed magazine page adhered to the outer frame and sectioned to go down the inside of the sides,  the embossed panel laid over and some washi tape stuck round the inside.   Various stamps in shades of blue and brown/sepia tones stamped onto the top of the sides, and in butterscotch on the outer sides.

Some more of the magazine pages stuck to card making it stiffer and easier to use.    This was stamped with the Kanban lighthouse and the Crafty Individuals bather.    The lighthouse scene coloured with Whisper Pens.   A cream coloured button with fibers threaded through the holes stuck to the top.   Some shells added and a little glass bottle with some green Glimmer Mist in it.    The same glimmer mist was sprayed over the bottom part of the frame and then over stamped before the various embellishments were added.    The fish and the rope came from an old potpourri sea breeze set from which the scent has long since faded.

Now for those other challenge
Crafty Calendar - A colour challenge of Sea, Sky, and Sand shades this has been teasing me all month so pleased to have been able to find the right project in time!
Dream Valley - Summer Days
Opus Gluei - Don't be a Beach
The Squirrel and the Fox - Nautical/Sea Life
Stamping with the Dragon - On the Beach

Now what shell I do?

A sketch, the roaring 20's and lots of layers

Good morning it's another muggy day here in Grimsby the sun might break through later which would be very nice!

This morning I have a card that finally got itself made yesterday evening.   It is based on the sketch at Rogue Redhead Designs.   Just been to get the site address for the link and looked for the first time at the entries, honestly this was the first time i've looked.   It would seem that the Milliner girls are very popular & why not.

Something else unusual for me is the use of DP's but at Doncaster recently a set called 'Time Flies' Craftwork Cards just drew me in.    The colour pallet is dusty purples/lilacs with touches of Teal and dusky pink.     After faffing to cut this directly to fit I remembered by DP's are not something to reach for very often.

The main image and it's frame were die cut into smooth card.   After using the die to emboss the card and before removing the frame die the embossed slots were coloured with DI and my ink dusters.   The same DI has also been dusted over the mat.   The girls were stamped in grey and coloured with ProMarkers.    Finally the butterfly has been cut from the DP and shaped before being added to the frame.

Last time the Rogue Redhead design challenge was to make Scrapings & I was thrilled to find out that my entry had been selected as a top 3.   Thank you Shar.
Other awards I've recently been honoured by are:

Thank you to both challenges it is always a thrill to be recognised in this way.  Your awards will go onto my sidebar, it's just that I've been a little busy with a new Mac and Challenges for Days recently & thanks to that have found somewhere else that might like my card:

Craft-Room Challenge - Heat Embossing

Good Morning I know it's been two weeks because those last weeks were my time off work.    Still thrilled to be working and value it like anything!

Also after two week's its time for another challenge at Craft-Room Challenge.    The theme this time has been set by the very talented Suzanne.   Her theme for the challenge is Heat Embossing.

Suzanne introduces her theme with these words.  'I selected my theme based on the past couple of summers we have had here in the UK - which have been far from good.  I thought we may do with a bit of "heat" although if we are at present experiencing a heatwave then the theme may prove a little unpopular as the last thing we will all want is to get those heat guns out ...whoops!  However I would love to see your heat embossing on your crafty projects......'   Oh so true but it did cool down a bit over the week-end and you do have 2 weeks to enter.

Hay I love heat embossing right, and experimenting just a little bit.    A Lincoln SY show I picked up a set of 3 wooden bags, this is the smallest of the three,   The heart and the peacock have been stencil embossed with dimension pastes, while the paste was wet EP was sprinkled over it and everything set aside to dry.  When the paste had gone off the ep was heated in the usual way, with wonderful results.   The ep on the heart is Piccolo Temple Stone had to buy a second pot recently am so in love with this stuff!

Once again the team have each lent their own special individual style to the challenge please do check them out.

This time our sponsor is
One lucky person will get to select £10 of goodies from their online shop.

Of course I'd like to share this with other challenges,

Challenges for Days

Now what does a gal do during the 2nd week of her annual leave when coming home each evening and it's hot?   Easy, she starts a new new listing of challenge sites!   With the help of some good friends that is just what Ive been doing in case you wondered why things have been a little quiet.

Yes I know there is a good list published every day already, for reason's I'll not bore you with I decided to leave the team and a - finding that I missed looking at the challenges and b - going back to just keeping my own record.  It seemed to make sense to open another list and share it with anyone else who wants to use it.

So if you have a challenge and we have missed you off our lists or if we have made a mistake please leave us a comment at Challenges for Days so we can pt it right.

Well any site has to have a banner, right?   So the final task this week-end (apart from one more list that is) was to craft one for the site, and here it is.
The hanger is an MDF item that I've coloured with Distress stain and them stamped directly onto it with  Adirondack Expresso and Distress Stain Picket Post.    An Imagination Crafts Mask provided the beach huts.   The stamped images have also been coloured with Whisper Pens.  Two metal charms added the winged heart and a butterfly, silicone glue was used and while wet fine glitter was sprinkled over especially over the butterfly.    The large orange flower on the right is hand made, 2 stamped flowers cut out and coloured the smaller one layered over the larger one.   A piece of Mica and some more (shop brought) paper flowers topped it off.   Orange organza ribbon tied at each end in a bow made it into a real hanger.

Then came the hard part editing the photo on my new mac and Pixelmator software.   So the new site now has a logo.   No badge yet and i'm back to work tomorrow but there will be one.   In the mean time I thought I'd share my crafty creation with a couple of challenges, and they are:
A Gem of a Challenge - Anything but square
Ali-Craft - Butterflies
Bloggers - Things with Wings
Brown Sugar - Anything goes
Crafts 4 Eternity - Inky Fingers
Inspire me Fridays - Always anything goes
Totally Papercrafts - Make your own Flowers
Simply Create too - Anything but a Card

OK before I go square eyed I'll leave it there.   If you would like to visit Challenges for Days please do and take a moment to let us know what you think.

Craft-Room Challenge mid point reminder

Hi, couldn't get this post done last week with my brand new Mac but I've learnt a few things in the last week.

We are half way through our Vintage Stamping challenge at Craft-Room Challenge.   Sponsored by Tando Creative and set by my co-founder Julia who loves all things vintage, we are looking for your Vintage Stamped Creations.

For my sample I used a bargain jotter pad and re-covered it, cutting card to size and using those ink dusters Adirondack dye based inks colour was blended over the card.   A Kaiser Craft Stamp and brown ink top and bottom add to the dreamy look of the background.    A die cut topper coloured in the same way also stamped with the Kaiser Craft Stamp and on that Stampendous corset image coloured with ProMarkers and fussy cut.

How do you do Vintage? you have until 20:00 next Monday to show us.

There are a couple of challenges I'd like to share this with:

Artistic Inspirations - Pastel Colours
Created with Love - Anything Goes
Make it Monday - Always Anything Goes

My new Mac

Sorry no post for the Craft room this week with a new Mac to get used to after the sudden failure of my old laptop it proved to to complicated for a Mac newbie to do.    It's all the copy and post bits somehow a new link deleted a picture and then kept moving around the page following the mouse and not letting me write anymore.   Even closing and deleting the post did not fix the problem it just started all over again with the same link on a new post.   So when it continued after 4 attempts I gave up.   After decades of Windows and before that DOS it is going to take me a few hours to make the switch!

So at the week-end I joined a lovely group of peeps on retreat, just up the road from here so I popped home overnight.   So much creativity, talent, inspiration and sharing thank you Barbara and Kate for letting me join you all.    It is not just paper crafting sewing knitting crochet cooking it was all going on.  No I didn't sew or cook come on be sensible this is me undomesticated antithesis of the domestic goddess.   I got inky.

A set of ATCs for this months UK Stampers swap where the theme is Childhood.

2 post cards for their July Anything goes swap.   My partner will get to choose.

and a door hanger just because.

Now I will try to add some links ........ you are lucky you'll just get to see what this finally turns into.

Challenges
Creative Card Crew - The Great Outdoors, rather thought my ATC set fits this theme.
Deep Ocean Challenge - On the Beach the ATCs also seem to fit.   Have you seen the banner for this challenge it always makes me catch my breath.
Get Inky - Summer Sun Fun well guess what the ATCs suit this as well!
Simon says Stamp and Show - A little stamping The ATCs are stamped and masked and stamped, the door hanger is also stamped I wonder which they will like.
Sparkle and Sprinkle - Anything but a card, Guess thats the door hanger.
The Crazy Challenge - Without Stamps, the second of the postcards qualifies, it was created with a geli pad, inks and acrylics and  stencil with whisper pens.

OK peeps as I've lost my old picture files I think my sample for the Craft-Room will not appear here which is a shame.   On the other hand feeling a lot more confident of writing my posts in future.

A long way from my comfort zone

Colour wise at any rate, this just seems so very pink!

Two challenges set this in motion when casting around for something to do.   Allsorts, Lavender and Lace I can only hope that  my additional colours are permitted.   The other challenge Playdate Cafe has already closed.

The base is a Plywood plaque which was given a coat of white gesso as a starting point.   A piece of an old music score attached and then Distress Acrylic paint brushed over the top, followed by more paler pinks and some white.   The mask stencil laid over this, embossing Paste mixed with Lavender shade Perfect Pearls then pushed through the stencil.    Kaiser Craft stamps used top and bottom with deeper purple ep, more of this ep sprinked over the wet paste.    Butterflies stamped onto Lavender coloured card and again heat embossed with the purple powder, these were carefully cut out, swirls die cut in green card and white paper flowers coloured with Lilac and Lavender inks.   Before adding these embellishments some cream lace attached top and bottom of the plaque, then everything else glued into place.    More of the lace threaded through on of the pre-drilled hanging holes and tied in a bow.

As someone who tends to greens and cool colours this is so outlandish but it's growing on me.

Through the Craft-Room Door - is always an Anything Goes Challenge
C is for Challenge - A new challenge whose first theme is FLOWERS
House of Gilli - Bright Colours
Imagination-Crafts - another new challenge with the theme Anything Goes
The Crazy Challenge - Anything but a Card
Altered Eclectics - Any Altered Item (No cards or layouts)

Two more days at work and then I have two lovely weeks off, craft retreat this week-end and plans to explore more of the area.
